This map departs from the norm as it depicts the artistic expression of film noir. The genre was in black and white, and usually had terrible weather in it, to depict the dark themes accosiated with it. This map shares much of that, including being black and white and having bad weather. The map is very small, just a few buildings across from each other. Almost if not all of the buildings have detailed interiors. With 40 people playing on this tiny map (40 is the maximum) it must be pure chaos. It is interesting that the creator was able to make everything grayscale, and as artistic as it is, I still would have liked to see a verson in color.

Here it is, the first map to be featured on CSDL. This is a remake of the CS classics cs_fort and cs_beirut. Although it has nothing to do with the city, the author kept the name since it has a similar layout. This is a 64 player map, so you know its going to be big. The map is a walled city, with the CTs spawning just outside of the entryway to the town. The Terrorists spawn in one of the larger structures in the town, where the hostages are kept. There is tower in their spawn which I am sure snipers will make great use of. There are many streets and buildings with very short corners meaning that fighting will be close and brutal. Grenades will be of great use on this map. There are numerous ways for the CTs to approach the area that the hostages are bing held, but with only two entry ways it can become a bottleneck. The lower area where two of the hostages are kept is just asking for an ambush, with many pillars and other objects to hide behind. In my search for bugs with this map, I only found one visual one, part of a builing to the left and outside of the CT spawn is missing a wall, although it is not possible to go off the map here, like I said before it is just a visual bug. If you can find a big server that plays this, be prepared for some mayhem.

This map is a little unorthodox for a CS map, since the hostages have been executed already. It is almost like an "escape" map from back in the day. The terrorists have just robbed a bank's vault, and must make their way up through either the subway or the main building to get out. This map could be considered a "Team deathmatch" as the only way I could find to win was to eliminate the opposing team. As for the layout, the counter-terrorists start on ground level in a park. The terrorists start in the vault of the bank. From the vault they can either escape through the bank or navigate through the sewer/railway system. Both escapes are tight and a good CT team can contain the terrorists from escaping. In the bank portion of the map, you will find the 4 hostages, except they are dead as I mention before. The bank has a cashier dest and a wall behind it that make great cover. There are cubicles on each side of the walls. Windows give any CT sniper a good view into the bank. The map came with no nav file, and my computer took 9 minutes to make one (which is a really long amount of time) so I provided it in the zip.

This map has a relativly simple formula. Like most hostage rescue maps, the CTs have to assault the building from multiple points, grab the hosties and not die in the process. There are two ways to enter the building for the CTs, either through the front door or the side door/ladder. Both are very close to the terrorist spawn point, and a slow CT team will be cut off in no time. The counter-terrorists really have to work as a team here to win, since the map has so many narrow staircases and hallways with quick turns. This map isn't the best one around, but it is very popular, so I decided it would be best to review and add it here.

This is the best attempt at recreating the famous map from counter-strike that I have seen so far. The overall layout is the same, but a few things have been changed. The spawning area for the terrorists is simpler, and the hostages are harder to camp. The water pipe system is darker, and the entry ways up to the car garage are modified. The car garage itself is different. My favorite camping/sniping spot that was near the door leading to the sewers is gone, and the cars have been rearranged. The building that lies in the middle of the two spawns, has a much more detailed interior, but the mobile home across from it is now gone, replaced by a shipping container. Playabilitywise, I really can't comment on because I couldn't test this with 20+ people, so thats a question that will have to be answered at anothet time.
