CS Source Updated - New Radar!
Many of us have been wondering how this new radar will work, well wonder no more!
CS Source has just been released with updates to the radar system, HDR added to a modified de_train, and a few other fixes.
  • The radar display has been enhanced
  • de_train has received a High Dynamic Range (HDR) lighting treatment, as well as some bug fixes and layout tweaks
  • The players eye height while crouching now matches their in-game player model eye position more closely
  • SourceTV now shows the weapon in first-person view
  • SourceTV supports the tv_transmitall command
  • Assorted exploit fixes
  • Restart Steam to get the update. Images are here!
CSN have provided a nice explaination of the new system:
  • The two images show the advanced radar with the enemy detection addition. The first was taken right after I rounded the corner and spoted a few of the T's in the Long Hall.
    I ran back around behind the corner and a few seconds later the "spotted" notifications disappeared. They do not last the entire round, they are time based.



    In addition, you will notice a number of additional changes to the radar. Obviously, there is a "mini-map" view instead of the typical radar design you've all been used to. You can also see what direction your teammates are facing, you can more clearly see who is using radio communication and where they are.
So what are you waiting for?
As usual, restart steam to get the update.

I dont like it. In the midst of action nobody has time to stare at the radar long enough to find out enemy locations. One of the best things about Counter-Strike is predicting and anticipation. I also find it much too large and visually cluttered. The old minimalistic style worked perfectly. On 8 vs 8, the radar looked like a ****** abstract cartoon with big bold X's, and Circles and triangles and whatnot. I'm extremely dissapointed in it.

The new POV for crouching, on the other hand, is definetly going to change a lot of dynamics on maps that involve hiding. I find it a nice addition, although some objects make camping a whole lot easier (One of the most notable is the height of the table in the projector room on cs_office). Before, camping that room was tough, since everything was high, now you can look over with a huge advantage. This is definetly going to spark huge debate on the Steam forums.

!!Bugfixes people and new additions to gameplay!!

Biggest feat: now srctv demos are ineyes too! ****** loads of stuff! only one problem, de_contra radar is fooked.

the best thing of the update is the srcTV update which will show guns, and the radar looks good, but how it works is absolutely ******. The crouch is wow.. it is good for shoot and bunny hopping for some reason but if you are in long A.. and you can't crouch down and see the bottom of the double door of B.. cause you don't crouch as down now.. so there is a big adventage of this update and it also makes it very annoying sometimes

I like it. I don't understand how some of you complain about somthing as simple as crouching height, somthing that was overlooked during it's development (because no, it wasn't meant to be as it was) has finally been fixed and you moan about it. The radar is understandable seeming it's quite different, but then again I have to say this is CS Source, not 1.6. We all knew from the get go it wouldn't be the same, so changes are to be expected. What I find annoying though is that most of you people complaining now were the people who a few weeks ago before it was even out were thinking enemies once spotted stayed on the map permenantly and other crazy presumptions, and even when that's not the case you STILL find somthing else to whine about. Unbelievable.

Yay, more useless crap. I personally dislike the map :/
i think teh radar is awsome especially on dust maps when i play (luv the new skins) i can tell exactly where the enemy r if u need to stare at it to realise then its ****** but i guess im just cooler lol
