*sigh*

As long as it is only a day that they've delayed it I don't mind. Could be a good thing if they are fixing bugs. As we've seen in the past if they release something with a bug it takes them a few weeks/months to fix it. If they do it now it'll be out of the way.

i thought i was bad at sticking to deadlines. valve still mostly rock though
a 5th map for dods is better than 15th or something for css anyway Posted by Rifleman
They never saaid today was a deadline all you people, stop ******ing.

"We're currently targeting Wednesday, November 30th"
It was though, just different wording as they'd never set a deadline. In the end they are only damaging themselves though. I expect it isn't just me that isn't buying any Valve products anymore. They've proven time after time that they are unreliable and it keeps on showing. I can only hope it is worth the wait. Posted by Rifleman
Selleck over the months you have become more idiotic
Posted by TomSelleck
Maybe you'd like to expand on that as it was barely worth saying. I can't see how you can judge someone as an idiot when you never give reasoning and are a well established spak.
The only thing that has changed in me over time is my opinion of Valve, which went down a lot. Apparently you are still defending them like you've constantly done in the past no matter how badly they mess up. Posted by Switz
I agree with Selleck, Valve has wonderful ideas, superb among most other gaming company's, but what they have in idea they loose in production. I have never seen such a horrible display of workmanship. I really wonder what they do all day as they work, do they just sit at the table and come up with more and more ideas while they leave their computers to just sit there? Also, Rifleman, if anyone is becoming more and more idiotic here it is you. I have watched you for quite sometime and YOU shouldn't be talking.

I don't mean to be rude, but have you ever tried to make a game? Even a mod? It's really hard work. There are few things more frustrating and time-consuming in this world than finding bugs. They come from the stupidest things, and sometimes are the result of a progression of things. Add this to the challenge of writing an engine that is efficient enough to run and look good at the same time, while making a fun game? They could do two things: keep on telling us their plans, to give us something to look forward to, or they could just button up tight, stop communicating with the community, and let everything be a surprise.
Personally, I like the fact that they communicate with us so often. Keep in mind that when they do this, it's not like they are a contract client and we call the shots on release dates. They are regular people, just like you and me. They mess up, just like you and me. The videogame industry is like none other when it comes to the more creative game companies; there is less precedent for it, so you cannot always tell how long it will take you to do something. Last point: they are making something from nothing. Sure, they have an engine in place (which they made from nothing), and there's a great editor for maps, but anytime you make something from nothing, it's unpredictable how long it will take to make, or even tweak! Sometimes you feel like you are almost done, but whoops! There's a huge problem here, and fixing it throws everything else off. I seriously doubt Valve is out to hurt their reputation; they already got the hugest black eye with the HL2 delays. They are simply communicating as much as possible, and I like it. My comments here address Valve's track record in general, and not necessarily just this update. Last of all, think of how many games have been delayed. Lots. Right now, I'm salivating over Oblivion, which got pushed back to April. But I know that Bethesda knows what it's doing, and I trust their judgement. This is not meant as a personal attack on anyone, so if you are offended or feel targeted by it, you needn't be. This is simply my two cents (plus a little...) Posted by TomSelleck
Good points there and I do realise I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes for Valve. It may be that they are working as hard as possible on this and expections are too high.
Still doesn't explain the way there are no updates for simple corrections like the Dx7 bug. I could probably fix that one yet they've left it in for about a month (can't actually remember when it started). That is a serious bug that allows cheating through legal methods yet Valve has neglected to fix it. Another fix I expect wouldn't be hard is the no v_models/scopes on SrcTV demos. They've left it like it is for ages without even a mention of fixing it. Then the way the player models are taking ages is another thing. They only have as many bugs to care about as custom skin makers pretty much. All that is required beyond that is a bit of programming to allow the multi choice. For a full-time company it shouldn't take several months to do that sort of task. From the looks of things they are usually either being lazy or trying to cut corners when doing their work. In the lazy case it is just the general slow pace at which they are currently releasing things and the amount of bugs they leave in. On the cutting corners thing it is stuff like the netcode and SrcTV which aren't complete really. I do hope I'm wrong and it is just a difficult stage in terms of luck with bugs, and soon they'll pick it up, but I've grown to have low expections of them. Posted by Peter the Hermit
yeah its hard to make a game, just dont promise someone something then.
Posted by Switz
Yes, making a game IS very difficult, but THIS is a map. Plus the fact that they have talked about this map for how long now? Longer then it should take for even a regular mapper to take. Just spend a good few days on it, and with their teams they should have it done. Also, there are LOTS of bugs in CS:S, more then I feel like naming.
One more thing, waiting for a game is one thing but after BUYING the game, I'd expect to have the patches ON TIME. Posted by Rifleman
Do you even know how hard it is to try and create a map like nuke and everything, do you not know how long it takes, they have to make the models, the materials, the tools. Normal mapper take all of that and build valve has a lot more work. Do any of you crate games and know how hard they are to make. No so you cant complain.

...wow....that was the most pathetic comment ever...great job Rifleman...great job...I just stated ALL of that in the previous comment...(claps)

I agree to some degree about the lateness... but also consider this: this company is also working on DoD:S, CS:S, HL2-Aftermath, Maintaining all three, improving Steam, the SDK, updating and maintaining the developer wiki... I realize that they have teams dedicated to each of these, so I agree to a degree, but it still isn't as easy as you'd think. Additionally, skinning a model is a ******load easier than creating a well-rounded player model. I've been modelling for a couple years, and modelling well for about one, and I have to say that guns are hella easy compared to realistic humans. They have to model them accurately while maintaining their polygon budget, rig them, rig the helper bones, make sure the rigging conforms properly to existing anims, not to mention the skinning and whatnot. In conclusion, modelling people is hard
