Source engine and news update released

    Day of Defeat: Source is ready and we're set to make it available on Monday, September 26, at 3 pm PDT. For those who have not yet pre-purchased the game, the 10% pre-purchase discount offer ends when it is released.

    In addition to pre-loading DoD: Source, another good thing to do in preparation of its release is to update your video card driver. With HDR and other advanced features included, DoD: Source pushes the limits of the Source engine a bit harder than other Source games. Check over at NVIDIA or ATI website for driver updates, depending on your hardware.

    Day of Defeat: Source will be available as an individual purchase via Steam, as well as part of the Counter-Strike: Source retail package that will be available at stores around the same time. Half-Life 2: Silver and Gold package customers will automatically be able to play.

    Finally, as we await the game's arrival, IGN.com posted a preview this week with a large collection of DoD: Source shots and video footage. Full reviews will be appearing beginning this weekend and web sites and in game magazines.

Updates to the Source engine have also been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted.

This release includes a number of very specific CPU and memory footprint optimizations brought over from the Half-Life 2: XBOX development codebase. The release also includes all of the engine groundwork to enable the Day of Defeat: Source launch that will happen Monday, September 26th at 3:00PM PDT.
As you can see, the specific changes for this update are not clear, however it does seem to of added support for HDR lighting to Source-based games graphical menus. Please note however, it is not yet enabled.

Big update to CS:S. Mite be the new models plus map. HDR to source? We wasnt informed were we? Thought lost coast was a tester. CPU optimization sounds good, last update of CPU gave me 20fps more and about 400 decal marks without any lag!

Of course time to back up custom stuff guys...

this update suck ******... it makes my computer lags so much even i turned EVERY thing to low and turn off the HDR... and i still get like 20 fps... OMFG... i can't even play

Not netcode news or fix, so I'm ******ed.. a well, maybe HDR will look nice and I might be able to run the game abit faster.

Ok first of all reseted my rates to sumthing stupid (9999 100 100). Second of all hasnt given me any fps more. Third HDR is enabled only in "HDR maps" wich are... dunno?! Hmmm

And worst of all: most servers give me "out of date" message when i click on em, and they are the vac2 ones! non Vac2 are dodgy as ****** (jumping hs with ak from miles away etc...) and must say all a frustrating experience for a player.

Believe me it isn't that. I turned off HDR (which defaulted to off anyway and none of the maps support it yet as far as I know) and made sure my Dxlevel was back on the normal one and it was unplayable.

i am not an idiot... i had all in medium before and i had 45 and i turned off every single thing and put all at ULTRA LOW and it still got 20 and i can't use awp anymore... zooming with the scope will give me like 10 fps

This is a great update for me anyways brought me back from 1.6 , the best thing they did is lock the interp settings 1.0 and 0.01 making the game fairer so no one has a advantage and also my fps has increased and alot more stable .

And stop saying valve suck ffs they update games for free which they don`t have to by law so you could be paying £30 quid each update so shutup. hint riffleman

i got a a performance decrease, 10 FPS on office. i cannot bare CSS on even medium grafix, its horrible. i mean, BF2 on low still has a decent look, and far cry on low looks pretty good too, but CSS looks like sh!it on medium, i cant even imagine what it looks like on low.

anyone notice that that the console screen stays visible longer when connecting to a sv and that is says "server is switching maps" when you first begin to load the new map, are we that retarded?

I agree with X but i didn't restart my comp i restart my CSS.
But firts time i play with HDR it was laggy but if u restart or just play it will be not laggy nemore

lol valve made min interp 0.01 and interpolate can still be set to 0 here... That in no way makes it fair tho as they have not synced players. So reg will be a lot worse for some and better for others.. The wrong thing to do. In my opinion the server must sync the players. But hey. its valve.

I dont seem to have a problem clientside, however, it seems that my server is now having issues, some ppl are getting a server out of date error, and some are getting errors like sv_Sounds not being able to be loaded up, and its not like i havent updated steam on my server...I think ValvE should have waited and done alittle more pre-release testing prior to releasing this update :

If your game is lagging come here to learn how to fix it!

Okay the reason it is lagging after the patch is because HDR is now supported. HDR runs on DX9 and CS:S defaults your game to DX9 and a lot of peoples cards don't support it which causes lag.

To make your CS:S not lag anymore do these steps.

1. Go to your Play Games on Steam

2. Right click on Counter-Strike: Source and click Properties

3. Click Launch Options and then in that box type this in it

-dxlevel 80

and yes you DO put the hyphen in front of it.

4. Now start up your CS:S and if it is still lagging go back and change the command to -dxlevel 70.

P.S. If you are wondering why your game lags even when your HDR is off this is why.

As of now none of the maps on CS:S support HDR so on or off it doesn't make a difference. Yes your card probably supports DX9 Software but it doesn't support DX9 Hardware. If your game is lagging it is because your DX Hardware defaulted to DX9 after the patch on CS:S and your card doesn't support DX9 Hardware so therefore you are going to lag. Changing the DX Hardware back to DX8 or DX7 will set your game back to how it was before the patch.

If you don't understand this I am sorry but hopefully your game is running the same as it was before once you do this.

Hope this helps some of you peace out.

what ebola boy said does halp a lil, but istill only got 20 fps. origonally, my DX level was 8.1 by default, but now wen i put mat_dxlevel 81 in, i still have a huge performance loss. POS

i cant even play CSS - it dosn't load up at the start ie: has no options at all. i'm going to play around with drivers and such and pray that this dosn't **** with my PREORDERED DOD:S.
