Full Version: problem with my computer?

I just built my computer 3 weeks ago and I have been getting graphical tearing once in a while after video playback. Graphical tearing occurs in the vista log-in page. Graphical tearing only occurs if the video playback of .mkv files, maybe .wmv or .avi screws up. Graphical tearing occurs when video playback screws up.. then the computer will freeze.. so I will have to restart my comp by pressing the restart button on the case. Then when it comes back on.. that's where graphical tearing occurs in the vista log-in screen. No graphical tearing occurs after the vista log-in screen.

Anyone has any idea how to fix this? Or i need to RMA my video card..

Comp spec.

Vista Home Premium 64-bit

And it doesn't occur anywhere else, only video files? Does it happen in standard media player/equivalents other than MPC?
Rifleman
Looks like a codec problem, re-install them and MPC and DON'T use codec packs.

Have you tried any of the new beta drivers for your graphics and or do you still have the 169's? Also tried updating your BIOS?
TheEndless
Only in video files... WMP does that too. I am using codec pack. I think i am using whatever nvidia's website has..

but the thing is .. most of the time it plays fine.. then after a while... during playback.. it starts doing that...
Rifleman
try some new drivers

Uninstall the display driver from Add\Remove programs.

http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745

install that then boot into safe mode, run it and use nvidia display filters.

boot into windows and install drivers.

it is still doing that.. now i discover that streaming videos online may also trigger the crash.
MR.change
Did you check for viruses on your system ? It could be the reason for all of this .
Rifleman
It's not a virus..
TheEndless
I uninstalled the K-lite codec pack ... and installed the CCCP codec pack instead.. see how it goes..
HCalibre
I think it might be the K-lite codec, I've used it myself and had similar problems - none so extreme fortunately.

As has been previously said, re-install your drivers. Completely remove them from the Device Manager panel and download them from the nVidia site - preferrably in safe mode.

I'm 95% positive you want these:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_175.16_whql.html

They were released last week, 37mb file size and in US English for Vista 32bit. Supports all 8800 models, incl yours.

P.S.
I know this is an old topic but
1) I'm looking for posts xD

2) Trying to help others with the same problem

3) Wanna know how it went on
