hey guys. as some of you know, my computer died a while back. i recently saw that it was the motherboard, so im just going to get a new motherboard and processor.

can anyone suggest a good (but cheap) motherboard and processor combination?

I need it to support a geforce 7800gt too.

Im looking for intel too. a core 2 duo would be ideal. i dont want to spend over 350. Help me out?

That 7800 is PCI-E?
Elanzer
It is if I remember correctly.

I would help but I have 0 patience for nubquestions.

to rifleman, yes

to elanzer, youve been rather mean to me lately =(
Rifleman
You'll need some more RAM as well, do you want my to spec it into the $350?
commander
Well...I believe you said you wanted a PCI-E mobo that would work with a core2duo?

Try this.

RAM = This x2 possibly?

BTW: How do I get my warn bar to go away? (Become a supporter or what?)
Rifleman
He needs a CPU too and that RAM is a little on the expensive for what it is.

Unless you have a real fetish for skins I wouldn't recommend anyone becomes a supporter, especially with the current owner.

But as an alternative that still partially funds forum upkeep in the most indirect way possible, you can feel free to donate to me personally. In return I'll show you great favour, reduce your warning, give you a special icon, and make sure you don't get banned for minor offences. Yes that boils down to petty corruption but screw it.

I haven't even spoken to you lately.
Rifleman
On newegg.

Motherboard $129.99

RAM $46.99

CPU $169.99

Total $346.97

haha i was actually looking at those parts. (aside from the ram)

think my 7800gt will fall behind?
Rifleman
It will certainly be the bottleneck in your system
batmAn IVē
is it going to be that unbelievably noticeable? i only need this computer to last me about another year.
Elanzer
No.
Rifleman
As Elanzer said you don't usually notice the bottleneck in a system if it was once the rest of your system bottlenecking the current bottleneck, if you catch my drift. Seeing as the linked processor is better than your X2 and the same with the RAM you should still notice a decent boost in performance, especially if you play source games.
commander
Rifleman...isn't this a mobo + cpu combo for less than what you linked?
680i + core2duo

...and then you could use the ram Rifleman linked.
Elanzer
It's cheaper for a reason - The chipset is Nforce, not the best choice for his CPU not just because Intel has better and more suitable offerings (currently) but also because I've heard of problems and incompatibilities with that specific series too, probably because it's quite old. Also put in simple terms that CPU is a 4xxx, a cut down version of the 'full' Core2Duo, the 6xxx.
Rifleman
Oh didn't realise that but the chipset of the other board is better as is the processor but whatever he feels is best for his money but thanks for pointing it out.
