So, no one has been talking about this, and im stoked because Crysis was awesome, and this is kind of like the spiritual successor to it.
So, Here it is.
Far Cry 2 IGN"Out from the tropical island jungles and into the plains of Africa players will go in Ubisoft Montreal's Far Cry 2, a game which we're hoping manages to further along the open-ended first-person shooter genre. The original, developed by Crytek (those also responsible for Crysis), did have open-ended elements its first sections, letting you explore a lush tropical island and blast apart enemies from whatever vantage points you wanted. GSC Game World's S.T.A.L.K.E.R., though flawed, still gave players a satisfying degree of freedom when it came to how they could choose to behave. Wiping out a town for no reason or hunting irradiated dogs upon the bleak, windswept plains around Chernobyl were some of your options. You could simply stand around and watch the groups of AI attack each other if you wanted – this genre, like open-ended single player RPGs, is all about, or at least is supposed to be about, giving the power of choice to the player."

Crysis was the real Far Cry 2.
This won't be much better than the semi-Far Cry junk Ubisoft have been pumping out for consoles since they got the rights to the franchise off Crytek. That's why it hasn't been mentioned yet, by me anyway.

I always thought Crysis was the fake FarCry 2 and that this is the real one, seeing as the Crysis story is set on the island but has nothing to do with the storyline from the first one. Am I wrong?
Also, i haven't bothered to try Crysis yet due to the 'alien + Koreans' combo which i think's just ruined the franchise.
Looking forward to FarCry 2 greatly though

Crytek gave the Far Cry franchise to Ubisoft ages ago, that's why every Far Cry game since the original has been console tat, it's also why Crytek's second game was named Crysis and not Far Cry, and why Far Cry 2 has little to nothing in common with the first game.

Other than it being made by Russians who hardly patch and it only running on one core when you play, theres not much wrong with STALKER. The atmosphere is perfect, its got the survival aspect down well for a FPS, the missions are fun, plus its free roam, and the story is great. I used to talk to Asian about it all the time. Plus did I say its free roam?
Crazy Asian

Oh right, what exactly was different.
It was truly free-roam, distances between areas of interest were a lot more realistic and had no fences funnelling you between them linearly, instead you could use vehicles to travel faster, there were no real goals, a lot more realistic and survival-orientated with requirements to eat, sleep, find shelter for the night/from blowouts every few ingame days by tracking local creatures seeming they would be doing the same, weapon modding and equipment maintenance was much deeper, there were more weapons, the faction system was how it will be in Clear Sky, AI was a lot more dynamic, etc. etc.

I don't mind other devs taking over a franchise as long as they do a good job, it's just that often they change it so much it's nothing like the original game anymore, makes me wonder why they didn't just make a new franchise themselves instead of killing the memory of an existing one. Ontop of that though I don't like Ubisoft very much anyway you're right, they're second only to EA in my books. Thankfully not too near, but meh, heading that way. And they're French.

Bumped.
So I've been looking at the videos posted about FC2 on gametrailers and I've got to say I'm way impressed. Considering buying it even though I didn't really like the first one all that much. The graphics are nutso and it seems like the Devs have really put their hearts and souls into the game. There's a few videos of them bouncing around Kenya just to record ambiance and get an idea for graphical details.
What do you guys think?

Seeming you said Far Cry series, I'm presuming your impressions of Far Cry came from one of the shitty console spin-offs, also developed by Ubisoft?

Oct 8 2008, 05:08 PM
Well, there's far cry, and Far cry 2 and now I have been informed that there are "shitty console spinoffs". I guess that qualifies for a series. My question still stands. Why does the original Far Cry (Crytek?) shit on the other Ubisoft games from a great height?
