Sorry for the Dp.
I just got to the Mako section in ME I am on the planet beginning with Fs' skyway and I am having a rough time getting to grips with it. The driving is awkward and it is hard to shoot at the geth rocket troopers. I got frustrated with it and stopped playing. Is there an easier strategy to use when trying to control it? Or should I just tough up and try again and again until I finally figure out how to control the mako efficiently?
Elanzer
Made a new topic for this seeming people are starting to get it now.

The Mako does have dodgy controls, way too sensitive and legacy style is awkward. Never the less you shouldn't be having problems. Its cannon rapes everything in a few shots especially when combined with the zoom, just sit there at range and barrage enemies, when their projectiles close in just use the jumpjets to dodge them, obviously between firing the cannon alternate to the MG.
Crazy Asian
I've noticed, the Mako controls are relative to the screen and not the Mako itself.
Elanzer
Yeah, but then again that's necessary to utilise the turret. I think most people's problem is the sensitivity, and the weak turning arc. You get used to it though.
Guns For Sale
Yeah i just got mass effect as well, the controls are well. I have to get used to them. Other then that the game looks fantastic visually. And the story so far it pretty good.
Crazy Asian
I love it...it makes me wanna get the KOTOR games, I've never played them.
Guns For Sale
Your missing out big time man. KOTOR isn't the same tho. However your missing out on alot. Get kotor 1 and 2 you will not be disappointed. And if you get number 2 for PC or w/e. The have a restoration mod coming out for it that puts back to the game that the devs would have put in but they where lazy.

Ask elanzer about the kotor restoration mod/project thing he will tell you about it.
Crazy Asian
Hmm...I was thinking about getting them for cheap for x-box, but now I think I'll get the for PC.
Guns For Sale
All depends, i mean hell you might be able to torrent them so you don't have to pay.

I personally like the xbox ones cause for me, they controls are much more easy for me.
Elanzer
Get them on PC, better visuals and more content. Just keep in mind it's Star Wars, very RPGish, based on D&D rules, and turn based.
Crazy Asian
I have no idea how D&D works.
WolfXI
neither do i ;/

all i know it has something to do with a twenty sided die or something.
Guns For Sale
The combat is turn based, you know...i attack then my other team mate attacks, then the target attacks and the cycle goes on.

You can also pause which helps and set your next line of attacks up, really help full if you wish to be a head.

I like the idea of KOTOR, but the first level of KOTOR II is like putting needles in your eyes.
KingTut
The "first level" of mass effect is a much more smoother experience. The only problem I have with the game is the bloody elevators. But there has never been a better excuse for a in-game bathroom break.

They take less than a minute, and on the citadel provide a means to get new sidequests, hear results of ones you've completed, obtain entertaining interaction between squadmembers, and most important of all it's a hell of a lot better than the loading screen you'd be getting otherwise. Streaming the new map info requires it.
KingTut
Owned by Elanzer again. Its just after playing adrenaline junkie games like bioshock and halo 3 the elevators tend to get on my nerve. Spoiled I am I guess.
Crazy Asian
Wanna talk about elevators and Halo?

Halo, Library level...

Nah, it's understandable, I guess if you're impatient it can be annoying. Personally I think it's a nice change of pace, I just use the break to examine my armour or if I'm bored of that spin the camera around in circles.
KingTut
I was actually on the edge of my seat during the library level. Granted it was legendary on PC. Which IMO is harder then console gaming.

Lol...I do the same damn thing.

Hamlet with all Elcor cast anyone?
KingTut
I'm a vanguard so I don't get much armour coming my way. I use the quarian and wrex as my squad mates who do you guys use?
Crazy Asian
First time through was Garrus and Ashley, second time through was Garrus and Wrex. Currently going to use Liara and (I can't never remember his nae) The guy from the very beginning with you.

You have my congratulations on being the only person I know not to just select the default soldier Shepard. Soldier is so fucking easy and boring. Anyway, long post:

Aside from when I was achievement hunting, I just use whichever teammates suit the mission and complement both my class and eachother. E.g Tali and Liara form a tech and biotics powerhouse and compliment an ability-less soldier very nicely. Garrus and Wrex are probably the most powerful offensive combination, Garrus being able to debuff enemies and is amazing (seriously) when given a sniper rifle with assosciated skill points invested while Wrex can do further damage at close range with his shotgun and biotics, suits a combat-weak class like engineer or adept perfectly, or if you're a soldier it would just be a slaughter on par of that if you had brought Ashley along with you, but without having to sacrifice abilities. It's worth avoiding unbalanced combinations like Asian mentioned IMO, for example Liara and Kaiden will have great biotics, but tech will be understrengthed and combat even more so. Also I don't think it's too smart bringing along members who are the same class as your own, while it's not going to stop you doing anything as long as you have each area of ability covered by the other two, the position could be better used on a member without redundant skills. For example, Batman as a soldier took along Ashley and Kaiden, while biotics and tech are semi-covered by Kaiden, having 2 soldiers (or even one really) is a total of waste of space.

Well ain't that the truth...many times he's taken my sniper kills.
KingTut
Why would you choose a soldier in the first place. Sure the combat system is good but its just good not great. The cover system can get on your nerves a bit but its all in good taste. I just don't see the point of playing the game as a soldier. Granted I will play the game through as a soldier latter in my mass effect experience but right now i want to experience the game in its fullness. This is why it was a obvious choice to choose a combi-class. I am still getting to grips with the game because Halo tres and bioshock are stealing my attention away from it. (which is a shame but they really are addictive games) I killed my first scarab in halo tonight (never played 2) and it felt good. So it just makes mass effect harder to get back to. sad.gif
Elanzer
You should play one game at a time so you can devote yourself to them properly.

And agreed about soldier, only time I played as one was my first time with the 'default' Shepard, soldier, earthborn, survivor, to get the 'way it's meant to be played' playthrough over with. It was so boring, I usually play on veteran as it's a comfortable difficulty for the ability or mixed classes, but on soldier even insanity difficulty becomes a cakewalk once you get your prestige class and can spam immunity. The lack of fun abilities doesn't help either. I've had my best playthrough as a fem-shep (voice actor is a hell of a lot better than the man-shep, really makes a difference, nicer arse too) renegade Adept with bastion prestige. Biotics and intimidate FTW.
Guns For Sale
lulz elanzer.

From what it seems, i just started the game. I did make a soldier, however ima change that to something else. From what it looks like there is nothing special about it
Crazy Asian
Biotics are fun, especially maxed out throw.
Elanzer
Neural shock + lift/singularity + throw = the best combo in the whole game. Almost makes me want to play through as a sentinel.
KingTut
Is the game truely massive or am i just making it take so long because I just do as many quests as possible?
Elanzer
Main quest is pretty short, and there's a fair few assignments, but what takes up the most time is exploring all the planets. You'll rarely find quests on them, but there's some reasonable loot, XP, and credits to be gained on them through finding minerals, wreckages, etc.
KingTut
Ok so I have a person with the first aid skill, and yet it does not show up on the combat wheel? Am I missing something? Also is it possible to get medi-gel to heal more then just a trickle of your life?
Healing is frustrating me. Can I get some tips?
Elanzer
Increasing First Aid increases health gained from a medi-gel usage (as it says under the First Aid description) so increase that if you're having issues healing, but it's an automatic modifier so you won't find it on the combat wheel, it's automatically applied every time you use medi-gel. Also worth mentioning is the total amount of health added per use is calculated from all of the party members First Aid skills combined, not just your own. Same with the medicine skill and its medi-gel usage recharge bonus.
Elanzer
Bump.

This really pissed me off. Why is there no controls on the media stopping them from spewing this shit?
skyfire
american news reporters, arg, they know shit about anything.
Rifleman
It's not American news reporters but gay Fox.
skyfire
not just fox, CNN has retarded reporters like this too.
Crazy Asian
Yes, we all know American media is retarded and those who follow are just as dumb. But HELL, what's seen in the game is no worse than what's seen ON PUBLIC TELEVISION. Problem is, the ignorant society believes EVERYTHING they read and hear as long as it's "news."
Elanzer
By the sounds of it the university mentioned is equally retarded too.
Crazy Asian
I don't remember what University they mentioned.
Elanzer
Can't remember what she said it was called but their extensive research came to the conclusion that "boys cannot tell the difference between real life and videogames".
Guns For Sale
Ah we discussing all that bullshit, that people have been saying about mass effect.

Honestly i think people are being way too sensitive. I mean holy shit, so there was a sex scene in this game? Big woop. Sex is in our TV Shows, Movies, Songs, Magazines. America is all about money, sex and other shit. What makes this any different?

Oh yeah it is in a video game, who cares? i mean shit, i'm sure they are worried about a younger age group but i mean most of them will discover porn, and all that shit.

And i think that whole "boys cannot tell the difference between real life and video games is bullshit, i been playing video games sense i was 4 and i know alot more people who have as well. We all play GTA, HL2, CSS and other games for a long period of time, you don't see all of us shooting people, stealing cars and having sex with hookers.

These people who keep complaining about these games should do something else that is productive and helpful, such as figuring out how to help the homeless or people who have real drug problems or whatever.

But we can also agree there is a small portion of this population that prolly don't know the difference. However they aren't as much as a threat.
KingTut
Mass effect really isnt that bad....
Downloaded
do want so badly right now.
KingTut
You have ass creed (tehee)
you made your choice.
Downloaded
I'd be saying the same thing about asscreed right now if I'd chosen mass effect :s
KingTut

Crazy Asian
Got Ass Creed AND Mass Effect biggrin.gif

A certain someone has Mass Effect (got it for X-Mas) and still hasn't played it yet.
Elanzer
Yeah, he'd rather play Halo 3. What a cock.

Oh by the way.

It seems gamers don’t like it when you don’t do your homework. That is what Cooper Lawrence is finding out. Since she went on Fox News yesterday and made a fool of herself, gamers have been heading to Amazon.com and trashing the reviews of her book. Now I don’t normally condone this type of childish behavior, but in this case I really can’t get too mad at anyone who left a nasty 1 star review. It may be immature and petty, but going on national television and blasting a game she has never played or even seen is also pretty immature. If that’s how she reasons her way through life maybe it’s good that some people will be spared from having to read her book. Reviews include lines like:

• "I never read the book, don't know who she is, and don't really care what she's writing about."
• "If she does have as much "research" as she does for her tv spots you can expect a book full of complete lies at best. Take everything she writes with a huge grain of salt or better yet save your money."
• "Trying to encourage sexual acts in a book made available to young children is unacceptable."

What's more, her other books (Been There, Done That, Kept the Jewelry and The Fixer-upper Man) are getting spammed as well.

We have the power.
