We don't have an official thread on this so might as well make one seeming it's out soon and most of us will be getting it. Also, some Halo 3 related news, Sony has been up to no good again:

QUOTE
Last month, the Vatican and CIA made it into the headlines when the Wikipedia Scanner revealed that computers from these two organizations were used to edit certain entries in the online encyclopedia. Now, Sony has joined the infamous list with a pathetic attempt to trash Halo 3. The Wikipedia Scanner has revealed that a computer with the ip address 217.18.23.2 edited the entry of Halo 3 back in April, adding the following line:

"Halo 3, the third game in the best-selling Xbox game franchise Halo, is a highly anticipated first-person shooter video game under development by Bungie Studios for the Xbox 360 and is expected to "set a new high water mark" for next-generation games, although it wont look any better than Halo 2."

A query on the IP address shows it belongs to the scee.com domain name, which is the official site for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

ehh, id rather read the books and just know the end of the story then actually get a completely new system and the game to find out. Plus the weapons ( in Halo 2) decided the gameplay online making it rather unpleasant for someone who gets stuck with the smg when other guys are slashing people up with the sword.

ZetaOmega
id want a ps3 for mgs4 but the fact remains the ps3 isnt worth two good games.

And el in halo 3 the smg>sword
Elanzer
I didn't say anything about the weapons, that was Minotaur, though I agree with him completely that Halo multiplayer is usually an awful experience based around uninspired and repetitive whore-the-uberweapon gameplay. If you're outside the US/Canada it's also impossible to play a ranked game considering Bungie are too lazy and cheap to set up international servers. I doubt Halo 3 will be much different, but at least it has a browser for custom games so I can actually chose what maps and settings I want to play now, without lag, without being forced to use that horrific matchmaking thing. Think I'll just stick to single and co-op anyway.

So who is actually getting this anyway? Just me, Zeta, and Coleson?
Shifty
i am i got it pre orderd

My room mate pre ordered it, so we'll probably be pwning it up soon enough. I'm not the biggest fan of Halo (Halo 2 was a massive disappointment to me) but because its such a huge game I'll probably be forced to jump on the bandwagon for a little bit since my friends will no doubt flip their shit about it. If anyone wants to add me for coop or something just message me smile.gif

I'll be getting it eventually. I've got more important games to get first tho.

will it be available on the xbox marketplace?

Warhawk is on the PS Store. There's no doubt they could do it, but it would be large. But no, it's not going to be on the marketplace.

As fun as it looks, I'm kind of worried about Forge. It could end up so popular that finding a normal game, or even a Forge game that doesn't have tards going around dropping tanks on eachother very difficult.

Which, if you got it at 12:00, drove straight home and played it, would probably be around 5-6 AM. That is, if that whole 5 hour campaign thing is true. D:

Also, in my opinion, Halo is fail, it's just gotten to be such a gigantic bandwagon fanboy-faggot palooza that it doesn't appeal to me. They milk the shit out of it too, with their drinks, figures, new 360, movie, and then Halo Wars. It's just a terrible game if you ask me. Halo 2 was horrible, and I played it, so don't go telling me I should play it before I judge it. Story was not very... engaging I guess. The online also sucks because it's just full of people who standby, hack and destroy you, and there's no fun. The only fun you can have is if you play with friends at a lan party or something, and none of my friends have it so eh. And now a five hour campaign, and more online with little twelve year old douches who standby and hack. Gee, sounds like fun, I'll get on it right away! Maybe once I get GameFly or whatever, I'll rent it and play it. :/ My opinion though, don't raep me.

Also, the most hyped game in the history of gaming, and it disappoints so greatly. To someone that isn't a Microsoft zombie, that is.
Shifty
never judge a book by its cover!
The_Sorrow
I don't. I've played enough Halo and Halo 2 to know that Halo 3 will be the exact same thing, so I'd rather not waste $60 on it.
Elanzer
Halo campaign was great. Multiplayer doesn't count seeming it wasn't on Live.
Halo 2's campaign turned shit. Multiplayer was made for little kids, turned shit too.
Halo 3's campaign is anyone's guess at the moment, Bungie claims to of learned from previous mistakes, and from what I've seen/heard it seems they've made positive changes, so I'm hopeful, even if it won't be as good as the original. Multiplayer is a confirmed improvement, but I'm still not that excited for it personally.

Overall, not worth complaining about. Could be worse.
Downloaded
could be much worse, and form most of what The_Sorrow has said, he just doesn't like it because most other people do... which is ok except it's not that bad a game. I like the campaign on all the halos so far a lot, good storyline, and gameplay. Halo 1 online on PC was brilliant, I was addicted for the longest time. Halo 2 I never liked, on or offline. All things considered I'm more excited about Asscreed by far and even Halo Wars, but Halo 3 is a must get.
The_Sorrow
I don't hate it only for that reason. Like I said, the campaign was not that engaging for me. Online was stale. The only fun I've had with Halo is playing co-op with my buds, and now most of my friends don't have it, or don't play video games anymore. It's hyped so unbelievably bad that it just makes the disappoint even greater.

I do like other arcade-like first person shooters, but this is just not my cup of tea. :/
Elanzer
Don't believe hype and you won't be disappointed. Works for me, apart from when trusted developers screw up and make a mess of a game.

Anyway, EG posted their Halo 3 review tonight and it makes for good reading. They're one of the few reviewers out there that don't overhype and act like they've been paid of to promote their games so I recommend you do too if you're planning on getting it. Summary:

QUOTE
Stepping back and looking at the game as a whole, it's clear that Halo 3 is exactly what Bungie would want it to be - the best game in the Halo series to date. We have criticisms, certainly - the slightly rough edges on some of the later levels being the outstanding complaint - but none major enough to detract from what is the finest game in one of the world's best-loved franchises.

If we are to nitpick, though, we do hit upon a useful caveat for some players. Simply put, Halo 3 is a completely pure first person shooter, with no pretensions to any other gameplay style. There are no puzzles to be solved, no character or weapon upgrades to be considered, and aside from a few notable sections, remarkably few vehicles to be driven around.

You shoot bad guys, and that's it. If that's all you want to do, Halo 3 is perfect, or as near to damned perfect as this kind of game is going to get. For those who preferred the more cerebral moments of the likes of Half-Life 2 or Bioshock, though... Well, caveat emptor.

There is a moment late in the game, when the Master Chief wryly states that his escape plan from a tough spot is to "shoot my way out - just for a change", when the irony may cut a little close to the bone for some players. But just as you wouldn't criticise football for being too focused on kicking a ball, it's not valid to complain that Halo is too focused on shooting aliens. Nonetheless, we're aware that this game might not be everyone's cup of tea, despite the immense hype machine surrounding it.

And yet, hype machine aside, cutting through the crap about console wars and the like, what we find in Halo 3 is quite simply this - the best game yet in one of the best FPS franchises of the era. Better than either of its predecessors, Halo 3 still can't quite escape the category of flawed masterpiece - but this time around, the flaws are so minor that even the most churlish of reviewers would be hard pressed to mark the game down.

10/10
