So quite a few people here will be getting this, might as well make a thread about it in advance. Bizarre has released new info detailing the cities and new gamemodes/gameplay changes recently, so here they are incase you havn't seen it yet:

QUOTE
We know that you guys and gals have all played these tracks to death, and a lot of you have already been sceptical that including the same cities again might be some kind of cop out. Well that's not the case.

Weather!
These cities are now raceable in clear, light rain, heavy rain, snow, overcast, light fog, heavy fog, storm, icy, and wet. In rainy conditions you'll see puddles forming on track which dramatically change your racing line. In snow and ice these puddles freeze over, creating no-go patches of tarmac which only a fool would drive over.

New vehicles!
As well as motorbikes (which drive totally differently and provide a new challenge for PGR veterans), there is also a much wider vehicle set this time around. It's not just "life begins at 170mph" any more; this time there are slower vehicles to take to the track as well.

New Game Modes!
As well as favourites like Street Race, Cat and Mouse, etc. there are also new game modes entering the fray, such as Survivor and Superstar.

Macau, China
Famous for its inner-city bike races, Macau is a track split into two. The city centre has open roads and lots of room to get your speed up. Some of the elevated sections might cause your vehicle to catch some air, but nothing you can't handle. Take one of the mountain roads though, and you'll see a whole different Macau. Twisting, fast, narrow, and (in places) tunnelled. Remember, what goes up(hill) must come down(hill)! Prone to tropical storms, Macau's track surface can become a nightmare when wet. Adjust your throttle appropriately when the rain starts falling!

Las Vegas, USA
Set around one of the famous lengths of tarmac in the world, The Strip, most of the tracks in this Nevada city all follow a simple formula: massive long straights with an intense hairpin at the end of them. Make sure you apply the brakes early to get your speed down and follow the rumble strips, and you should be able to swing around just fine. Remember that bikes generally corner slower than cars around hairpins, so be extra vigilant when riding two wheels instead of four. Las Vegas is most spectacular at night, and so it's only fitting that this is how it appears in PGR4. Don't get too distracted by the neon though, and remember that weather is now a feature. Yes, it does very occasionally snow in Vegas in real life... although you will probably see it a bit more frequently in PGR4!

London, England
Start your race on the banks of the River Thames, and speed past the Houses of Parliament. London is a historic city, so remember that its streets weren't designed with cutting-edge sports cars and superbikes in mind. Runoff is virtually non-existent in the city centre because of the close proximity of the buildings to the road. Stay away from the barriers to keep your speed up, and be careful when riding your bike through the slaloms. Watch out for the infamous London fog and rain... it can wreck havoc in the tight inner-city areas of the track. Learn the routes before you go flat out.

St Petersburg, Russia
This Russian city consists largely of open roads with lots of runoff to play with. Expect high speed driving, but you'll need to experiment with your racing lines to find the fastest route through the open areas. The terrain is mostly flat, but watch out for the humpback bridges! Use them to grab some extra Air Kudos during a race. There are some tighter roads around the central canals area; don't let the shorter corners take you by surprise. Overhead tram wires add to the sense of speed, but don't let them deceive you; you'll need to contrast your driving between the super-long slaloms and the turn-on-a-penny square corners.

Tokyo, Japan
Japan's largest metropolis returns to the PGR series, with wide roads and plenty of space to jostle for position. There are various corner types, ranging from super-long sweeping bends to insanely tight hairpins. Taking motorcycles for a spin in Tokyo will be a humbling experience the first time around, especially when trying to tackle the descending circle turn at the Shinjuku bus terminal! Remember, bikes make up their ground on the straights. When cornering, brake more than you normally would in a car and make sure your racing line is good.

New York City, USA
The two giant bridges make a comeback, this time with new vehicles and weather conditions. It is possible to push the fastest cars and bikes to their limit in New York, but watch out for the absurdly tight corners at either end of the Brooklyn Bridge. You'll need to get your speed right down; otherwise you'll become a little too acquainted with the Armco!

Shanghai, China
Shanghai at night is an amazing sight, with neon signage to rival Las Vegas. However, don't be distracted by the beautiful skyscrapers or dramatic lighting; you'll need to stay alert when racing here. Almost all of the roads are several lanes wide, meaning that it becomes less a task of avoiding the barriers than it does getting the perfect racing line. Most circuits are suited to fast cars, meaning that Shanghai is sure to become a "Class A whore's" favourite. If you're going for a fast lap in Shanghai you'll need to let the rumble strips guide you in and out of the multiple chicanes. That doesn't mean it's not fun though; Shanghai is a perfect playground for Kudos grabbers to practice their trade. A wet race in this city is hardly ever without incident. Pay attention and don't let the speed creep up on you.

Quebec, Canada
Racing Quebec is like riding a twisting rollercoaster ride through narrow streets and hills. Most corners are long and slender, suited to either car or bike, and can be taken at high speed. However, there are a few awkward bends which you'll need to learn by heart in order to take at pace. A nice highlight is the gated city walls, which some circuits snake right through. As you might expect in what has been described as PGR4's answer to Edinburgh, there is very little runoff and thus no margin for error. Watch those barriers!

Nurburgring, Germany
The "Green Hell" makes a comeback in PGR4, this time bigger and badder than before. This time around you'll have to contend with fog, rain, and snowdrifts. It's tough enough to complete a lap in good weather... wait until you see it under a foot of snow! The Snow 'Ring has actually been modelled on a completely different mesh to the Clear 'Ring, this letting us do cool things like swap out the trees for ones sporting a new "leafless look", pile up snow on the grassy areas, and cover certain rumble strips in snowfall. If you're looking for the ultimate Gotham challenge, you just found it.

Michelin Test Track
As the icing on the location cake, we have also added a fictional Test Track to PGR4. This performs a similar function to the test track from Gotham 2, in that it's a great place to take your cars out and push them to the limit. However, unlike the test track from Gotham 2, this one serves a purpose in the Single Player career mode too. Several invitation challenges take place on the Michelin Test Track, sometimes on the Nascar-style oval, sometimes on the windy service roads, and occasionally on the dirty great skid pan located in the centre. Despite the track being fictional, it has been inspired by a particular famous racing circuit in the States which I won't mention. But why sponsored by Michelin I hear you ask? Well, not only does this add some real racing authenticity to the game, we also get to include a couple of 40 foot high giant Michelin men in there. So everybody's a winner really.

I'm liking it so far. Looks like they're partially returning to PGR2's forumla, which is a good thing.

Sweet. The Weather effects on the track should be good. Now i can P.I.T other cars with out much hassle.

Intro video released, and I must say looking better than ever. It's got my juices flowing (quite literally, from multiple orifices):

First person view on the bikes is looking immense.

So who is actually getting this? And if you are, on release or when you get round to it? I want to race with some fellow CSDLers.

Edit: after watching the preview I might have to buy it on the release... the motorcycles are just too hot to resist wub.gif

You heard it here first: PGR4 has gone gold and is currently winging its way to manufacturing! Woo!

For all the non-Level 60 geeks among us, this means that a game has passed all the necessary certification tests and is officially finished, done, and dusted. Now all that remains to be done is for the squillions of discs to be pressed and shipped to stores, so that you can buy yourself a copy.

"But when can I do this?" I hear you ask. Well if you're in the US, you should head down to your favourite store on the 2nd October. For us European folk the wait is a little longer, as the game launches here on the 12th October.

I was disappointed the Cerbera Speed 12 was missing from the vehicle list personally sad.gif My favourite car and has featured in 2 and 3. At least there's still the Jag XJ220. Demo is being certified and will be out shortly before the game itself. Also, soundtrack details:

QUOTE
Bizarre Creations has detailed the 57-song soundtrack for Project Gotham Racing 4, due out exclusively on 360 from 12th October.

PGR4 is also fronted by an exclusive song written and performed by The Prodigy called Shadow, which plays on the various menus and over the credits. Cleverly, the sound team isolated little loops of the electronic track and made it so that entering a new menu initiates a slightly different phase of the song, giving you the sense of progressing through a tune rather than just listing to a jingle on repeat. It's like Rez for menus, innit. What's more, if you stick around on the main menu for long enough without doing anything, the game just starts jamming, spitting out variations on Shadow with gay abandon.

Elsewhere on the soundtrack, there's a familiar mixture of various genres and styles, and the game will allow you to switch playlists off and on by genre, or individual song within a genre playlist, so if you don't like hip hop but do enjoy a particular song, you can make sure that stays in the mix. It's all part of a push to avoid having people race in and opt for custom soundtracks - although this being 360, that is of course an option.

For more on the audio side of Gotham, as well as all the other sides, watch the site in the coming days. The full track-list follows. Apologies for typos if there are any - the bloody train is swinging from side to side whose bright idea was that.

Info on PGR On Demand:

QUOTE
PGR4 is the first in the series to not have to worry about launching any new kind of technology. With PGR1 we were there at the start of the original Xbox, PGR2 was one of the first big games on Xbox Live, and PGR3 was a launch game for the Xbox 360. This time around we've been able to sit back and think "what makes a great game?" instead of wrestling with technology!

The good news about this is that we've been able to really push the feature list into the stratosphere with PGR4. Motorbikes, dynamic weather, a new single player career mode, a huge stats website, an online party system to keep your friends together, an iconic vehicle set, a new online career mode, etc.

We've also had much longer to get the game balanced... with PGR3 we had about 3 weeks to get the game playing how we wanted it to play after the tech was up and running. With PGR4 we've had bikes and cars together and working for over 6 months, and cars on their own for way over a year. This means that the game is tighter, the difficulty slopes upward more gradually (with less spikes), and the platinums should never feel too easy (or too hard) for the pros. So gameplay enhancements only are the order of the day, right? Well not exactly. Our guys couldn't resist taking advantage of some brand new technology for PGR4 (hey, it's Bizarre!), and that's where PGR On Demand comes in.

Back in the days of PGR3 we had Gotham TV; a service which allowed you to watch online races live, as they happened. This was one of the big new elements in PGR3, and it certainly was incredibly popular when the game launched. Thousands of people used Gotham TV to learn new tricks, make new friends, and be humbled by the best racers in the world. However, as the game got older people started to use Gotham TV less and less. When only the pros were left, they tend to race the same kind of races over and over... in this case it was F50GTs around Tokyo until the end of time. That's not the most enjoyable thing to watch as a spectator, and thus Gotham TV lost some of its sparkle.

With PGR4, we wanted to keep everything that was great about Gotham TV - the sense of community, the TV style presentation, and cutting edge tech running it all - but the objective was really to make it more accessible for everyone. How could we let people watch what they wanted, whenever they wanted? The answer was PGR On Demand: a brand new service which allows you to upload and download a variety of content including ghosts, replays, and photos. You access it directly through the main menu of the game (just pick "PGR On Demand"), but it also pops up from time to time in other places too.

The service itself is run by a new technology called the "Content Server". PGR4 is the first and only game to use it so far, but considering the tech is now part of the overall Xbox Live spec you can bet that other titles will follow our lead in the future (just like you saw with Photo Mode uploads, Gotham TV, online tournaments, etc.). The content server itself allows players to upload and sort various pieces of content, and then recall them in a way they see fit. For example, want to see a replay of Enzo Ferraris racing in Macau? No problem. Want to see a photo of a Kawasaki in a snowstorm? Just search for it.

PGR On Demand also allows you to vote on public photos, meaning that we will finally be able to see who's photo grabbing skills are truly the best in the world. Voting is easy... just browse the content server and hit the "vote" button when you're ready. Random photos are also pulled into picture frames in your garage, and voting is available here too. When the racing gets too much for you it's possible to just wander around checking out your vehicles, inspect your trophies, and even vote on a couple of photos on the wall.

Overall we're hoping that PGR On Demand, as well as the updated Photo Mode, provides the community with some much more effective tools to demonstrate your creativity and skill. Ultimately though, the success of the service depends entirely on the content you guys provide for it. I don't know about you guys, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what you all come up with!

Sounds good. I love that kind of thing.
MR.change
I hope they consider porting it to PC sometime soon
Elanzer
They won't. It's a 360 exclusive franchise. Racing games are pretty poor on PC anyway unless you have dedicated peripherals.
Elanzer
Bump. It's out. Everyone who's played it thinks it's great and far superior than PGR3. I'm getting it friday. When are you getting it?
Santana Claws
Depending on what feedback I hear from you guys, I might hold out until my birthday and/or Christmas, since they're a month apart. So if you can influence my decision before the end of November, I might buy the game sooner. I'm not saying I don't want to play the game, its just that if I can find ways of not having to pay $60 for a game I'd rather get it and save my money if its possible.
Elanzer
DEMOS IST UP OMG.

3 cars, 2 bikes, 2 tracks in limited weather conditions, and some demo exclusive challenges and arcade mode events. Hardly bursting with content but it's enough to keep me occupied for 3 more days.

Edit thoughts:

Good
- Visuals are amazing.
- Race types refined.
- Weather nicely impacts gameplay.
- General quality improvements.
- New track is great.

Bad
- My favourite view was replaced with a new bonnet cam. Hard for me to adapt to the others, chase cams are too sluggish, and both the new bonnet cam / old road cam are too low down.
- Incar view was edited, for a severe worse. The viewpoint now has been moved further back, and either really high up, or really low down depending on the car. Literally half the screen in some cases can be taken up by the roof, with a tiny vision slit at the bottom.
- Bikes are going to take A LOT of getting used to for me, they really don't fit my racing style.

Ugly
- Elanzer racing bikes at 150MPH around the Nurburgring half F1 circuit in heavy snow for the first time.
