Thread. Considering buying. It's this or MW2 (for literally double the cost I may add) ... advice?
KingTut
Depends on what your looking for, my loyalty to bioware would win out in that situation as MW2 is for consolefags who in my limited time for gaming would just piss me off. However, Dragon Age looks fairly crap all things considered. sad.gif

I'm sure if I worked at it I could get excited but the way that I have received the marketing has put me off it (when without marketing and only looking at 1st teaser I was very excited).

I have nobody to discuss it with though, Wolf keeps ignoring me for some reason.

SRY RAIDING.

Hmm, I haven't really looked it up all that much, except for the character creator "demo" and some trailers.
Elanzer
Hrm. Although all the reviews are turning out very positive I've decided to wait until Xmas / New Year when everything quiets down before I possibly get this, nothing to lose by not pre-ordering but a bunch of redundant-sounding rings anyway.

If anyone else gets it in the meantime let me know how it goes.
Guns For Sale
I wasn't really all that interested in this game. However over the past week or so i've became very interested in the game.
The amount of time it takes to complete one storyline is what got me interested. I may purchase this for the 360 or acquire it for the pc.
KingTut
Don't get it for the 360, apparently it is the inferior version.
Elanzer
And if you pirate it you'll lack two content packs, a rather 'unique' party member, and the armour sets for both DAO and ME2, all of which come as free download tokens in the box when buying a legit new copy of the game.

The party member alone made me think twice about pirating it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfX_CuoXN8Q
WolfXI
Oh wow. Want.

I think I'll end up buying it legitimately when I get some money, after I get L4D2 though.
Elanzer
Also lol'd at 1:12 in that trailer.
Guns For Sale
yeah i didn't think about all the dlc it comes with.

I dunno still, PC or 360. I think the 360 version is the only one that comes with the DLC for both the game and Mass effect right?
Elanzer
Nope, Blood Dragon armour is cross-platform.
Guns For Sale
Damn.

The only thing that would make me buy the game for the PC is if it has a modding community.

If not, i'll most likely get it on 360.
Elanzer
Just to clarify, the armour set is tied to your Bioware social network account which is accessible on both PC and 360. So as long as you redeem the code on that you can get DA on PC and ME2 on 360 and have it on both.

Oh and PC version of DA is superior.

I now know that no-one reads my posts.
Elanzer
I think we all knew it was the case before any of us said it. Unfortunately Guns needs telling several times before it sinks in.
Guns For Sale
No it is the fact i have no internet and a limited time frame on the free wifi i get so i only read new posts so i pretty much skip to the last page and read the last few posts.

Posts get ignored all the time, even ones which aren't just stating the obvious. Get used to it bro.

Edit: Also why is everyone pirating this, fuck you all. Is a game that's met with universal acclaim and guaranteed hundreds of hours playtime not worth your money? Unscrupulous bastards.

Nigger forum.
Elanzer
Meh. At least pirate copies still haven't got the DLC working, and hopefully never will.

I'm really tempted to go and buy it today. Wanted to wait until Christmas so it doesn't interfere with MW2/AC2/L4D2 but CAN'T WAIT THOUGH.
KingTut
As soon as I discover the root of the problem barring my gaming computer from accessing the internet here I will probably get DA:O and L4D2. And leave E:TW out to dry D:
Elanzer
Yeah, ETW can be sacrificed for NTW if needs must.
skyfire
I ended up picking this up. since its gonna run on shit setting on my laptop i got it for the 360. i know i know
but i am tired of games not looking good on the laptop so i said fuck it.
Elanzer
It's okay, at least the 360 version doesn't suffer from the PS3 version bugs and choppy framerate.
skyfire
yea, no way i was gonna buy it for my ps3. i laughed when the guy at walmart asked me if i wanted it for the ps3. HELLLLLLL NO
Elanzer
Good job. Now, need more opinions.
KingTut
Heard PC version has it's fair issues with bugs, but may have been getting confused with PS3 version.
Elanzer
A game this size no doubt all of them have their share of bugs, but the PS3 version especially I've heard comes off the worst, especially framerate. Related:

My time with the PlayStation 3 version of Dragon Age was not without troubles. In fact, my 40 or so hours in the game were plagued with annoying little glitches that, while not breaking the game completely, did hamper the experience. Some special combat animations were way off, with my character performing finishing blows in the air next to the boss I had just downed. Sound glitched frequently, leaving me watching a character's lips move while no words came. On a few occasions the screen would glitch when a character was speaking, showing broken geometry instead of the person talking. I also had issues with monsters dying and taking up to 30 seconds to register as dead, making me have to wait to loot bodies and in some cases delaying the completion of certain quests.

Perhaps the biggest bug I encountered was during the final battle, when I simply could not progress. BioWare suggested it was due to a monster I needed to kill falling through the world. I wound up having to load a previous save in order to complete the game. Luckily the game had autosaved just before the battle started, but it was definitely more frustration than I needed.

i love this game so far, the story is great and imo this is what fable 2 should have been like. God i love bioware!

I agree. I'm buying this thing when I get money. The devs deserve my money and I want the extra content. I'm playing a good, somewhat naive noble dwarf warrior for my first playthrough. If I ever get around to playing more characters I think I'll play an asshole city elf who is bitter about the treatment of his people and maybe I'll figure out some sort of human thing to do. Humans always bore me.
WolfXI
Indeed. This first playthrough I'm playing as a human as how I would react in real life.
skyfire
yea, first playthrough i am playing a human warrior and am being good minus the occasional killing of retarded people that annoy me.

I guess it's cause you never played the original, but Fable games really aren't meant to be gritty/mature/D&Dish/party based dice roll combat. Fable 2 was exactly what it was meant to be, it just managed to ruin the charm of the original in the process.

Anyway my main fears were lack of armour/weapon models (only a ton of reskins), boring stretched out dungeons, and clusterfuck combat... But I see no complaints, so will be picking this up toward the end of the month, or maybe sooner if I can't resist.

sry, i should have clarified what i meant. what i meant by "this is what fable 2 should have been like" the main story isn't being overrun by its sidequests. it seemed in fable 2 that most of the game was just side quests and
imo it made the main story weak and seem very minuscule and in DA:O the side quests compliment the main story(so far).

Let's stop talking about Fable 2, it makes me angry.

Anyway, I wonder if there's a way for me to make sure I don't lose my save data when I get the game legitly... I'm pretty much in love with it so far. I just got past the bit where Flemeth's daughter gets added to your party, and speaking of Flemeth, did anyone else wish they revealed a little more about her? I wanted to know more about her history as the witch of the wilds, but I guess I missed my chance to ask her in conversation by picking another option. Silly me.

SPOILER

I'm pissed that I didn't get to keep the dog I saved after that first battle against the Darkspawn Blight was lost and the village was destroyed... Poo.
skyfire
As a human warrior I have a dog as a squad member!
Guns For Sale
I'm holding off to xmas so i don't have to buy these games myself lol.
Elanzer
Someone answer me this, why is Sten disliked?
skyfire
he's slow as fuck and always dies fast, well for me at least he does.

Is it the one in the Werewolf ruins? He fucked me pretty hard when I met him last night. I had to leave and go to Redcliffe to level a bit more.

In related news, as a dwarf warrior, I got a dog, too.. His name is Sam.
Elanzer
Every origin gets the dog, like they get every other party member.
Downloaded
Hmm, I read somewhere that there was a chance you'd never meet all the part members the game had to offer. I guess it was all lies.
Crazy Asian
This game looks like it plays like Knights of the old Republic.

Similar, but it uses a different (I think it's own custom) ruleset.
