Full Version: Possible Faulty Monitor/GPU?

Hey guys,

A few days ago I noticed that my monitor would occasionally have fits where it would flash sporadically, changing the color pallet of the image on my screen seemingly according to the colors that were on screen at the time (i.e. when I'm using Google Chrome viewing a white page the monitor will flash causing a white website background to look blue because the task bar and Chrome menu bars are both blue)... At least that's the correlation I've found, I'm not 100% sure this is true. After a few minutes of spazzing, the image will stabilize, showing the proper colors of all the items on screen.

I don't think it's the monitor because during one of the sporadic flashing sessions, I pressed the menu button on the monitor to bring up the little menu overlay and its colors didn't change, only the background colors were affected, which makes me think that my problem may be due to an overheating GPU or a loose cable, but my fans don't seem to be going crazy and I think all the cables are put in right...

Ideas?

Do a barrel roll?

Hmm, Try underclocking it a bit and see if that helps. What are your current temps?

where do I see?

Presumably this is the problem you mentioned before? If so it's not hardware temperature, that never causes anything like that.

It's probably just a faulty monitor. I did warn you about tacking a cheap LCD onto the end of your upgrade. Look into getting it replaced, or a refund.

In the meantime some things you can try to keep you entertained, maybe you'll get lucky:

- Swap with someone else's monitor for a few hours to determine if it is infact your monitor at fault
- Update drivers for GPU and monitor
- You said you'd left your LCD at factory settings (blasphemy) so make sure the monitor colour temperature is on neutral white and not set to anything bizarre that could be stretching it to its limits
- Check connections and try different sockets
- Make sure monitor is at the correct resolution and refresh rate, these should be at their native settings at all times on an LCD

Will do those things when I get home from class. My GPU temp varies between 59 and 60 Degrees C... Is that ok?

As I said, it's not GPU temperature.

But yes that's normal for a 4000 series, mine (albeit a 4870 and overclocked) idles at around 78 and peaks in the low 90s max, so you're fine. You've got nothing to worry about unless it peaks well over 105.

Monitor color problems are usually cable related ,see if your LCD has a detachable cable ,if it does then try using another one and see if that solves the problem.

Are any of the pins bent or broken?
