Announced. Takes place a generation after Fable II. You're your hero's kid.

QUOTE
The game will see you become the ruler of Albion, deciding whether to be a kind king or a tyrant, and whether to keep the promises you made on your way to top. Your decisions and judgements will affect the shape of Albion and its society.

You'll be a hero ruler, and still an adventurer, "like a captain in Star Trek", said Molyneux. The game won't be an RTS, he promised. You'll also be able to travel to lands beyond Albion's borders for the first time.

The game will be out next year, but "don't expect it too early in 2010", said Molyneux.

Well... Pete destroyed my faith in Lionhead with Fable II. Whilst I don't know very much about the game I just feel like the series has gone downhill. Their Good/Evil and Purity/Corruption mechanic is shit and I can honestly see them implementing a poor, dirty little peasant-fuck child-squire in place of the dog... I actually might find that a little intriguing. I don't really care too much for exploring beyond Albion's borders, Albion is such a poorly established piece of crap in the Fable II that I really wish they'd just make it more interesting and focus on telling its story before moving onto stereotypical magical kingdom 2.

To say right now that I'm not going to buy this game would be speaking too quickly, but I guess I'll have PLENTY of time to think about it considering Peter's overly relaxed time management skills (I sense a delay in the near future). I'll wait and see what people think of it before I dish out 60 bucks for a game that I think is only going to perpetuate the decline of a series that I used to love so much sad.gif.

Lionhead maestro Peter Molyneux revealed that there will be some big Fable 3 news at the X10 event this week. "There's some very, very big things happening in Fable," said Molyneux, "Bigger than you think, and it's going to really upset people." Molyneux added that he is "really scared" about telling people the news, saying, "They're going to get super pissed off, they really are." Still, he concluded that it's "the right thing to do," and confirmed that he will be demonstrating the mystery announcement at X10 in San Francisco.

In Fable III we have taken away the experience system.Experience is a core mechanic of RPG games, and we've removed it. "Why?" Because experience is all about combat. Fable is more than just combat. We're not saying that combat is any less or diminished, we're just saying we needed a mechanic that covered the entirety of the game; experience wasn't it.

People didn't understand what the difference between red experience, blue experience and green experience was -- they just didn't understand it! Over half the people didn't really care about what color the experience system was. It was just wrong. So, when you remove it and replace it with something called "followers" -- you get followers for everything you do in the game; whether you're nice to people out in the street, or nasty to people; who you marry; the family that person comes from makes a difference -- it brings followers to you; you're going to have to have a certain number of followers before you take on the evil tyrant king; you've gotta have a certain number of followers to do something else. That all makes much more sense.

i stand by my previous comment.

Peter's a really special guy if he can take himself seriously as he spews this nonsense.

Have you two even read this? Or just "HURRDURR I HATE MOLYNEUX BECAUSE FABLE 2 HAD SOME FLAWS" ?

He might be overrated as a visionary and have very little to do with actual game design anymore, but this is one of the times he's right and is pushing in a genuinely creative direction. The traditional XP system is antiquated. And nobody cared for Fable 2's attempt to differ XP types, it was just frustrating and complicated everything.

Most recently Mass Effect 2 didn't have the traditional XP system, yet neither of you complained about that did you. I doubt you even noticed.

Using this followers concept makes sense in the game universe and can function very similarly but in a far more interactive and tangible way that's similar to the mechanic used in their old Black & White games, which I loved. Merging the best concepts of their two franchises produces some really interesting ideas. It sounds great to me, and this is the kind of thing I was hoping for with the previous mention of Fable 3 having a much larger scale.

still sounds like he is going to make another horrible game. Probably no boss fights and most likely another anti climatic ending to a mediocre game.

and i prefered ME2's new xp system compared to the first one. I'm complaining that they are calling it a rpg game and there is NO xp system.
Elanzer
I couldn't care less if there's boss fights or not, they're antiquated too and in no way a requirement for a good game.

And not to get into a genre debate but an XP system isn't a requirement for the RPG genre either.

In this dev diary some fable III footage is shown.

Looks like its going to be a modified fable II to me. However I think all the BAWWing is a little excessive. As a fairly neutral player of the series I will probably pick up Fable III regardless of development. I find they are good games to relax in.
skyfire
meh, i won't. It just seems that peter is trying to incorporate his old ideas into his new games cause his new ideas suck ass.

My first comment was too harsh. I agree that Pete's trying to do something creative but it seems to me that in effect all he's going to do is dumb-down a perfectly functional game mechanic... Just because he's trying a new direction doesn't mean it's the right one. Yes, I have a chip on my shoulder because Fable II was a steaming pile of poo that fooled me into anxiously anticipating it for about a year and then letting me down pretty hard.

Just want to point out that I did notice the XP system in ME 2. No, I didn't care but it's unfair to say that Peter's new "I killed monster, now I have fans" mechanic is on the same level. Bioware's XP system in ME 2 was really more of a tweak to an already existing mechanic when in effect Peter's fans are going to result in the exact same effect as an XP bar without as much rationale. Killing an unnamed bug in a forest and then having 3 new fans in some town a mile away doesn't really make sense to me, nor does it seem necessary.

TLDR

Fuck Fable.

Total supposition. Nothing has been said that points to it working as such.

Rumour floating around that Fable 3 will have a PC version and cross-platform multiplayer.
KingTut
PC port of Fable TLC was good. Cross platform multiplayer (fable2 multi in mind) doesn't do anything for me.
Elanzer
Better to have it than not have it, no? The more unified playerbase the better.
