Shaun
Yeah. Looking to buy a new GPU.

The rest of my PC is getting on a bit though, so I don't want to buy something stupidly overkill.

Upgrading from this thing:

Processor:
Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E6850 @ 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory:
2048MB RAM
Video Card:
Radeon X1950

ADVISE ME, CSDL.
ninedice
is your motherboard pcie 2.0 compatible?
Shaun
I don't think so, but it doesn't even matter does it?
ninedice
nope, its backwards compatible
Shaun
So...
I DON'T UNDERSTAND :<

As nindeice said, PCI 1.0 / 2.0 are both compatible with eachother and don't really make any difference anyway, so don't worry about using a 'new' card with your 'old' board.

Get a Radeon 4800 series (budget: 4850, recommended: 4870, at most: 4890) or Geforce 200 series (budget: GTS250, recommended: GTX260, at most: GTX275).

Both series are current gen, popular, complimentary to your existing setup, and such performance has never been so cheap.
Shaun
Safe.
My new 4870 1GB nigger will arrive Tuesday.
