well i start my laptop and the bar loads 3/4 of the way then the last quarter takes a few mins to get through. then it shows a
underscore in the top left of my screen that is flickering. it then takes its sweet ass time to load up to the sign in screen.
i just reformatted it a month ago and have not had any problems at all till a few days ago. I just did a system restore and it loaded
up in half the time. so maybe a driver? or windows update? any ideas will help. i am going to shutdown and restart and see if it takes
its time again to load up so in the mean time if you have any ideas or suggestions please post them, thanks.
Shaun
Probably something you've installed. If all else fails just give it another format.

Man, i've never had problems with vista, which surprises me. Always ran nicely for me, and never gave me and trouble. But meh, when Win7 comes out i will move to that seeing as it is much better then Vista.

You will most likely have to format man. Sounds like a driver/hardware issue. Maybe start in safemode and do a windows update or download and install windows vista SP1.
Elanzer
Vista SP1 is ESSENTIAL, not a maybe.
skyfire
its one specific windows update that does it, i think i have singled it out but when i got back from my brothers it started up a little slow but not as bad as before.
skyfire
now when booting up it shuts its self off.....really really not impressed. looks like i am gonna have to reformat....rage ensues
ninedice
have you tried stating up using your installation disk and doing a "fixmbr" at the command prompt there?
KingTut

After you format make sure you download and install SP1 ASAP.

It will save you some grief. Well it should..
skyfire
it is installed. comes with it. anyways i think i know what has been wreaking havoc on my laptop. it seems that my external HD is what is fucking it up.
it works but i will probably have to remove it before shutting down then just plugging it in after i boot up the laptop.

Disable the automatic adjustment (Auto Tuning) for the TCP window size on the network. To do this, follow these steps: Click Start , type cmd and press Enter. Type netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.

Try it.
