Max Payne 3 is currently in development and scheduled to hit the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 this winter, Rockstar announced this morning.
The sequel, in development by Rockstar Vancouver, will tell the story of a retired police detective "embroiled in a world of corruption, turmoil and intense violence."
"We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."
Since leaving the NYPD and New York itself behind, Max has drifted from bad to worse. Double-crossed and a long way from home, Max is now trapped in a city full of violence and bloodshed, using his weapons and instincts in a desperate search for the truth and a way out.
Side note - this image - i have no fucking clue who it is. I can guess it is max, but that can be argued..added a pic just to add more content.

I never played the second one, but I was in love the first Max Payne. I don't know how many times I played through it as a juvenile 15 year old. If the second one was good I hope to be optimistic about the third installment.

This isn't being made by the developer of the first 2 games, and the story of Max Payne was wrapped up pretty well in the second game, so if anyone is 'more world-weary and cynical than ever' it's me.
Also I could've sworn that was artwork for Splinter Cell 5.

Even with a developer like rockstar taking the helm? (Didn't play the originals but heard the praise)

Well it's Rockstar Vancouver, and the only game they've got under their belt is Bully... which I liked, but I'm not sure if they're really experienced enough to handle something like Max Payne 3.

Yeah max payne 2 was pretty dramatic and had a really good story. If you haven't played it you really should.

Is max payne 1 required to fully enjoy max 2?
Edit:
On the evolution of Max Payne, and the only real thing I know about the game is noir,bullet-time and he has a bad day everyday.

I'd say so, the only thing that carries over is a few characters, but still.

Fair enough, the 1st one was praised by all the gaming mags I read at the time so I figure I will give it a shot.

Sam Fisher is getting a bit old as well, in a Splinter Cell game coming to a Duke Nukem Forever near you.

I thought he kind of looked like Vin Diesel in the screens. Bruce Willis is kind of puny.

I said Bruce Willis because of his general appearance. With the holster and his dirty wife beater.

But yeah, he is a bit puny.

true, maybe is a hybrid of the three. He has the maniac moves of Bruce Willis (John McClain), he has going to have the voice of Vin diesel, and finally he will look like old sam.
