Bad choice, I'd go for a complete new PC not starting out as a bare bones kit. They also have newegg.ca now by the way, for us Canadian fellows that want awesome prices.
Also, your link to the video card you were mentioning doesn't work, it's a javascript window.

I'm not really all that up to date either as well, but here's my recommended parts for a fairly decent computer. Feel free to correct me Elanzer/anybody on what you think as well.
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16814161248G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB):
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16820231098 <- Not too sure on this choice.
Not too sure on what motherboard, case and hard drive either, perhaps somebody else could fill it in?
What's your price range as well?

Oh, you can probably get better parts than what I recommended then. Possibly the new i7's? (el?)

the new 32nm i7s should be unbelievably quick, wait for those, the current ones are still 45nm construction.

Put this all together fairly quickly. Just to give you an idea what you can do. If there is any issues with it, other people will point it out.
I didn't put a HDD, Keyboard, Mouse, monitor or OS seeing as i figured you would save some cash and use the ones you currently have.
Just hit that black bar that says 50% reduced to see the full picture.

sweet thanks guns i will look into it more and wait for more opinions. i might just start by
ordering a tower and a mobo first and then build upon it, we'll see, just not gonna rush into it
like i did with my laptop. thanks again!

No problem, a big money saver is using all the old gear you have before buying new stuff.
But don't use anything that will slow down the new components. Hell use your old case if you can. That saves about 60-200 dollars. I mean, don't stick with my build or anything inless it is super great. But it gives you an idea what you can make, i mean that video card is better then the GTX 260.

I'll comment on the final selection, that site is too muddled to make a list myself.
