Technically, though seeming they'd already been out in 2007 and featured in last years awards I don't think they should be included in this.

what about a best DLC category?

Dec 31 2008, 01:43 PM
I thought about it, but couldn't come up with many examples. If anyone else wants it I guess it could be added.
Also need more votes. Only 3 people so far :\

I'd participate, but I can't say I played many 2008 games this year, so my nominations will simply just be the select few games I've played that was released this year

I'll send in my votes when I get back to Cairo. I'm in Austria for the moment but I should be back home by tomorrow or the day after. Didn't we have the CSDL community awards last year? Can we do that again?

Jan 3 2009, 07:19 AM
Because the community consists of less than 10 members and nothing particularly eventful has happened.

Well we where promised new traffic and shit by the new owners. But they've all said that, and nothing good has come.
We need to change to something other then just Counter strike.. like CSBanana was dying at a point i believe because CS traffic was beginning to get slow, so they changed to FPSBanana, and now they're doing pretty good.
Maybe fix the shit that is wrong with the site at the moment and add new features and do something with it.

Not at all, i'm just saying the site itself needs to change. If read my post carefully i mention no such thing, i was just using fpsbanana as an example how they changed their site to something else other then CS.

I've done everything I can to poke the owners into changing the site's focus, sometimes they even say they will, but it never happens.
As long as people keep visiting here though it's staying up, so at least we can pretend it's something else. If you want more members it's up to existing ones to bring them in.

Entries are still trickling in, slowly. If you haven't already do it now, right now, even if you can only thing of one category or game.
There's a few people especially that really should've voted by now. Be warned that if you don't vote you will be named & shamed, put in the stocks, and egged.

Anyone think of writing articles to keep the front page alive/Suggest to Max about writing something about games not related to CS?
Maybe I have been reading too many escapist articles but thats one way I could see a change in this site, because honestly the only thing going for it is the forums and the skin downloads. As CS is oldhat now I think people should suggest realistic changes rather then just stating that change is needed.
(not getting at you guns, your comment just got the ball rolling)

I've offered to do it if he separated the 'old' CSDL from hypothetical 'new' CSDL & forum, changed the frontpage etc.
But nothing materialised. I guess he can't be bothered.

I'm saying keep the name and the old, but submit articles regardless so he can see if it has any effect.

Results are in, check the front page.
Although there wasn't as many votes as last time and many people didn't read the instructions on how to vote or used them on outright bizarre choices, the results aren't too bad.
Honourable mentions are only given to titles that are closely contending the runner up position.
Enjoy & discuss.
Personally I wish more XBLA games were in.

Fallout 3 best single player experience?
Downloaded
Jan 13 2009, 09:40 PM
I agree about the arcade games. I nominated GeomWars for best soundtrack... You might have thought it was bizarre but I loved the music to that game. As for Tut, really, quit bitching. You're 360 is bricked, it's not Fallout 3's fault for being Fallout 3, it's Fallout 3's fault for being the game you were playing at the time. I had to deal with a broken 360, it's not all that hard to fix.
KingTut
Jan 13 2009, 09:44 PM
I'm not "quite" bitching about my 360, I'm talking about fallout 3. It is a very lonely game, and tastes like a bethesda game, its crack-cocaine addictive for the first month or so and then wanes. I reckon GTA IV should have got the award. Fallout 3 just shouldn't be the best single player game imo. Nothing to do with my 360. Though it could be something to do with my fallout fanboy-ism. It isn't oblivion with guns but it definitely comes close at times.

I take it you played the fuck out of oblivion then?
Elanzer
Jan 13 2009, 11:16 PM
Indeed, inside out, plus the DLC packages, and I still feel I could squeeze more out if I could be bothered. Mainly because instead of doing a massive sweeping playthrough with one character I tend to roleplay with many, and only do quests that apply to them. E.g Not having my tanking armoured boyscout goodie goodie paladin join the thieves or assassin guild at all despite the advantages and being invited. I guess I'm doing something similar Fallout too.
Fallout is definitely an improvement overall but I think Oblivion still has its merits.

Other than the issues when it comes to modding, updates, CD keys, multiplayer accounts within games, and having to run Steam anytime you want to play, sure.
Crazy Asian
Jan 14 2009, 12:48 AM
Then it's really no different than playing a Valve game. I just don't like that in MP, retail cannot play with STEAM bought games.
Elanzer
Jan 14 2009, 12:54 AM
It's fine with Valve games as they're designed from the ground up for the Steam framework.
3rd party games are just tacked on, so with Fallout 3 you'd have the game itself, which then runs within the GFWL framework, then for Steam purchases it'd be put inside the Steam framework too... It's just messy and unnecessary. Order a physical copy online instead if you can't get it from the shop yourself, at least that's my advice.

This completely slipped my mind. I saw the topic one time when I was heading out the door and planned to vote, but never looked at the it again. I didn't play too many games this year what with me having a shit PC and no money for 360 games, so I'd only be able to vote in a couple categories.
For now I'll take the title as Most disappointing member for not voting. :<

Online in the same servers? It's just what I was told.

Jan 14 2009, 09:49 AM
Pretty sure you can. Apart from certain situations like Wolf buying CoH over Steam which disabled him from playing my mod online and therefore single handedly forcing me to scrap the whole project I'd spent weeks on just because he was too lazy to get a physical copy. Things like that.
Infact I don't know why anyone would choose to buy or add a non-Steam game on Steam at all. Even those which work without issue, what's the point. Ordering a physical copy online comes just as fast on the day of release, is usually cheaper, and at the end of the day you have a hard copy and all the benefits that brings.
WolfXI
Jan 14 2009, 03:38 PM
I caused you to scrap it? GOD DAMN YOU WHITEBEARD. The weird thing is is that I can play any other mod without a problem at all.
And it wasn't laziness, it's the fact that my town is small, and nobody within like a 100km radius was even selling it. I know I should of simply ordered it online, but I thought Steam would be more convenient, and I don't have precognitive powers (Unfortunately) so I didn't know I'd have a problem playing your mod in the near future.
If you still have it somewhere I could try loading it up again.
Elanzer
Jan 14 2009, 04:08 PM
Well, with Essence engine at least (CoH, DoW2) full conversion mods would work as they're pretty much total archive replacements whereas minimods like mine function more like plugins that piggyback on existing (normal type installation / non Steam) directories and files.
And yeah it's long gone I'm afraid, after you got the game Sorrow and Santana stopped playing with me and started playing with you, and seeming it was totally incompatible with you = might as well not bother.

Wolf is Canadian. And Elanzer ask me for a game whenever you like, I'm always open. Wolf just asks me for games more often. I don't usually play it before anyone asks me so that's why we haven't had a game in so long.
As far as I know I only played with your mod once and that was for about 10 minutes so I didn't really get the full benefit of it.

Canada is still America (well..north America if you want to get technical...)
