Right, so basically yesterday, I finally got to try Guitar Hero for the first time ever. It was pretty fun, and I figured it would be cool to have myself.

I own an xbox 360, but only a couple of games. (GTA4 and some shitty NFS). So I was thinking of buying the game(s) and two guitars.

Got some questions for those out there who's got a clue tongue.gif :

- What do I need in order to play? Its just a game + two guitars, right?
- How many different Guitar Hero games are there?
- What kind of music etc. do the different games contain? What bands are there?
- Which do you prefer?

Have a retarded question as well, lol, just need to make sure:

- There is only one type of guitar, right? Not different versions or anything?

There are like 4 Guitar heros, and 2 Rockbands.

It all depends on what type of music you like. Each one has a specific theme. Rockband however seems to be a bit of everything.

Appreciate the reply, but I was hoping to get something more spesific, no offense.

Anyone who can answer all my questions? Or maybe direct me to a webpage or whatever that has all the information about guitar hero?
Crazy Asian
IGN has a track list of GH games
The_Sorrow
Wikipedia page might be of some help too.

You just need the guitar + game, nothing else. (except the console of course)
There's something like 6 guitar hero games now, 1, 2, 3, Aerosmith, Rock the 80's, and World Tour. All of them have good track lists, mostly rock like you'd expect. There are some unexpected techno-sounding-ish songs in 3, but nothing major. I haven't played World Tour yet, so I'm not sure about it, but my favorite by far is 3, because of the track list and online/fun factor.

Oh and if you're really interested at all, GH: Metallica is coming out sometime soon, mostly loaded with assorted metal. I might have to look into getting that with it being my favourite genre.

^All coming from a former/relapsed Guitar Hero addict/pro, I play this game way too fucking much.
Crazy Asian
Aerosmith fucking sucks. Rock th 80's has like very little good songs (I fucking hate that glam/hairmetal shit (and pop))
The_Sorrow
Oh whoops, I didn't mean to say they have good tracks. Oh well, they're just shitty "expansions." Don't get them, they're gay.

Hahaha, I love that song.

Yeah, I'm pretty good at guitar hero, though in all honesty I can't do TTFATF on expert sad.gif. The Sorrow got it right about games. I think for the 360 the only ones out there are 2, 3, Aerosmith and 4. Like he said, don't get the expansions.. Out of all that I've played (which I think are all of them except Aerosmith), I like 3 the best because the ridiculous solos make it lots of fun. It's got a decent track list and pretty good DLC available. GH 4 has the most songs available from the get go and don't get me wrong, they're good songs but for some reason the game itself (for me) isn't as enjoyable. I know it's weird to say about a game that only involves hitting colors DDR-style but I think you can really tell that the dev team changed.

To answer your question about guitars:

There are several different kinds of guitars for the 360. There's the wired X-plorer which is my favorite, though I'm not sure I would recommend getting it as mine broke pretty much as soon as it had to deal with the sporadic strumming involved on GH 3 in songs like Knights of Cydonia. Then there's the wireless GH 3 guitar which is basically just an upgrade from the X-plorer; it has a longer strummer, the buttons are easier to push, and of course it's wireless (which for some reason I don't really like, but everyone else does). Finally there's the GH 4 guitar which is pretty much just the GH 3 guitar with a few slight improvements and one major difference. It's a little sturdier than the GH 3 guitar, I think they improved the strummer a bit, but I'm not sure. The thing that really sets it apart from the others is the touch pad in the middle of its neck, which is not required to play GH 4, but makes it a hell of a lot easier. I'm pretty sure the touch pad is useless in other GH games though.

My advice would be to go for 3 or 4 and get two wireless guitars... If you get 4 then get at least one GH 4 guitar.

Hope my massive schpiel helped a little.

Dev team didn't change from 3 to 4, it changed from 2 to 3. Other guys went to make the first Rock Band back then, and Activision has handled it ever since. But I know what you mean, it doesn't look as fun to me either. For parties yes, for hardcore faggots like me, no.

Also, wired X-Plorer is a great GH guitar, only reason mine broke is because I smashed it out of rage. Luckily I have a backup. Other than that, it's probably the best of the guitars that I've used. GH3 wireless controller had major issues with the detachable neck, which caused my red and blue buttons to hold down by themselves, and caused my yellow button to not respond at all. They could have left the detachable neck out, it just shit all over it. As far as I know, there were no major changes to the actual gameplay design of the guitar. They are two different guitars but still, same set up, only thing different is the shit neck.

GH4 they left the neck in, which really made me mad. Longer strum bar, and it has bigger start/select buttons for those that use it to activate star power. And as you mentioned, touch pad in the middle which is a pretty cool add on, but I've yet to use it.

Things didn't really change at first, but when they went to four they made some big changes, guitar and gameplay wise.

i actually quite like the new controller, the slider bar is awesome! you don't even have to strum if you don't want to, you can tap the slider bar while holding the appropriate
buttons everytime a note comes along. the music studio is also alot of fun!
Crazy Asian
I hated the X-Plorer. The GHII PS2 controller was way better than that POS.

I don't even use the slide bar, when the purple rope comes up, I just tap the buttons instead. GHWT is the first and only GH that I own, and I feel pretty good about it. Playing drums feels a bit weird though...to me it feels odd staring at a screen hitting the pads.

Cheers for everyones replies smile.gif Helped a lot.

Only thing im having problems making up my mind about is which guitars to aim for >.<

Anyways, ill look around in town, see whats available.

If the picking is slim I'll probably just order it online somewhere.

Thanks guys xD

We got my sister RB 2, and the drum set was all fucked up and will not work properly. So i had the enjoyment of showing my mom EA'S RMA process.

Lets just say she isn't every happy seeing as they keep tossing her around.
skyfire
