So most of you know the whole story behind 9/11. WTC where attacked, thousands of innocent lives where lost.
This thread isn't to discuss the politics, or who did it, or stupid conspiracy theory. It just kinda a remembrance thing. Because it seems that people forgot, not necessarily you guys but people around me (Non family) forgot and where being insensitive about it. (Not trying to be funny, but being purely ignorant).

So please as i said don't discuss the politics of it, who did it or these theory, and do not post gifs of it trying to be funny or anything like that.

So..

2,749 people died..
343 NYC Firemen died..
84 Port Authority Employees (37 were Police) died
23 NYPD officers died
Only 20 people made it alive out of the debris

and for 8½ months people worked 24 hours a day to clean up ground zero...

Also elanzer brought it to attention 7/7 isn't mentioned much. ( I don't know how many of you remember it..but i honestly wasn't thinking of it because of the date really. I remember seeing it on the news.) So i figured it would be right to mention that too because they got hit close to home too.

7/7 - London's public transport system bombings AKA London bombings.

This attack Carried out by British Islamist extremists, via suicide bombings. Three bombs exploded on three London Underground trains. A fourth bomb exploded on a bus nearly an hour later. The attacks killed 52 people and the four suicide bombers, injured 700. This attack was the largest terrorist attack in London.

7 years already wow, seems like it happened not long ago.

I remember having luch over at a friends house when we were back in the 8th grade and we saw it on tv. We didn't quit understand it back then but god it must have been horrible for those people who lost there loved ones. May the rest in piece.
Guns For Sale
I was young when i saw it on the news live.

i was in italy at the time. I remember having a bunch of patrolmen (MP'S) at my house because they knew my dad well. We had a a full room, i've never seen my house so quiet before. It was really upsetting.
Crazy Asian
Memorial on campus. I thought it was pretty cool how I started taking pictures, then as I sat down at a near by bench, I see about 5 other people stop and take pictures.
Sorry for this pic, I found out the hard way that my phone takes shitty pictures at low resolutions

Has anyone visited ground zero? Its size is massive - 10 or so city blocks. And the fact that they're already rebuilding on the site is astonishing in itself.
Guns For Sale
yeah.

We had a moment of silence today.

I remember seeing the first reports with around 30 other people gathered around a tiny 15 inch TV in the common room at school. The Americans of my dormitory house looked absolutely mortified, I think one or two of them may actually have been from the New York area. Looking back, my most stark memory of the event besides them, was the Beeb routing through reports from the American news agencies already plastering Bin Laden's portrait over the screens as the primary suspect. Have to laugh at that.

Also have to laugh at people still crying over this but 7/7 passes by every year with scarcely a mention.

indeed.

I'm trying to contain the rage inside me over this thread.

Really seems like yesterday happened . . I really feel bad for all those lives lost because of who knows what reason . . Don't wanna start debating over the reasons, because Guns asked us not to. But they all died in vain. So many people . . And it's a shame.
Santana Claws
9/11 will probably be to our generation what 1968 was to our parents generation. 7/7 was an aftereffect of 9/11, both are tragedies.
ReVaN
A song dedicated to this tragic event. It shaped the lives of many others on the face of the earth. Even if they were not directly affected by it . . Let's face it, it was a shock, for all of us even if we'd try to be more distand and insensitive towards it now. People should never forget.

You're not in this alone
Let me break this awkward silence
Let me go, go on record
Be the first to say I'm sorry
Hear me out,
And if you take me down
Or would you lay me out
And if the world needs something better
Let's give them one more reason now, now, now

We walk in single file
We light our rails and punch our time
Ride escalators colder than a cell

This broken city sky like butane on my skin
stolen from my eyes
Hello Angel, tell me where are you
Tell me where we go from here

Tell me we go from...

And in this moment we can't close the lids on burning eyes
Our memories blanket us with friends we know like fallout vapors
Steel corpses stretch out towards an ending sun, scorched and black
It reaches in and tears your flesh apart
As ice cold hands rip into your heart

That's if you've still got one that's left inside that cave you call a chest
And after seeing what we saw, can we still reclaim our innocence
And if the world needs something better, let's give them one more reason now

This broken city sky like butane on my skin
stolen from my eyes
Hello Angel, tell me where are you
Tell me where we go from here

Tell me we go from here

Just to say I didn't mean my statement as attack or anything, 9/11 was obviously the most severe act in this whole terrorism business of the 21st century and will naturally get more recognition. I just find it a little hypocritical how every year over there the flags come out, the nation mourns, the acts of the people responsible are condemned, a big fuss is made about remembering who died (and fair enough), but the other acts abroad where hundreds of other innocent people suffered at the hands of the same breed of extremists are probably not even known to a majority of those people.

I suppose I shouldn't expect the American public to care when the British public themselves had mostly forgotten about it after the first anniversary. Terrorism was a fairly new concept to the US and the continuing reaction is only natural, whereas the British people had already experienced being on the receiving end of lengthy terror campaigns for decades and are a little desensitised to it, maybe too much, the memorial services for almost any tragedy are actually pretty pathetic in comparison.

Regardless, discussing that isn't the point of this thread, just wanted to clarify. Ignore.

El, with all due respect, nobody is trying to say that 9/11 is more important than 7/7, feel free to make a 7/7 thread when the time comes but for now I think it's a nice thought to remember the poor people who died seven years ago.

I was in 5th grade and I don't really remember much about what was going on at school, we wall watched on one of the TV's in a teacher's lounge I think... Most of us didn't really get what was going on considering the notion that people could be so cruel to each other was completely alien to us at the time. I do remember that for a few weeks after it all had happened, our phone was ringing off the hook with Egyptian people my dad had met over the years telling us how sorry they were.

*EDIT*
I'm just going to shorten what I said before to simply; 9/11 is just entirely overplayed on TV and the internet... it just seems wholly disrespectful that we sell T-Shirts, Hats, Banners, and all that with the towers on it, or "9/11 never forget" for a profit. Likewise, it's disrespectful in my opinion to be showing on TV and on the internet the deaths of those people in the form of photographs and graphic footage as a way to remember them.

I was going to say something about how Politicians use the event, and said video/footage to their advantage far too much, but I noticed that Guns requested that not be done so out of respect for him I revised my post. Suffice is to say; the post is probably 1/2 the length it was before lol.
Santana Claws
I agree that 9/11 is definitely used as a political tool by politicians, especially Republicans. While those who died should be remembered, I feel like the whole tragedy has been twisted by politicians and strategists, especially neoconservatives, who have used this administration to pursue their openly aggressive and repressive policies.

Oh bugger, you were quicker at quoting me than I was at editing.

Oh well, I would suggest that if Guns requests you to, that you remove it, but if he doesn't mind then I can't keep you from showing what I genuinely had on my mind and expressing that your opinions coincide with my own.

oh damn you all tnite, thats the second time i have had to edit my posts tongue.gif

all bombing seem to have an important date associated to them, 9/11, 7/7, and also here in Egypt, we have 3 important holidays and there was a bombing on each one of them. this makes them easier to remember. here, it makes them harder to hold a memorial service.

Yeah, I heard some theory behind that too, but I didn't catch what the significances were or anything like that. Curious thing though.
spaghettifier
when there is a special date, it makes it easier to remember, that way their message is clear for longer. could also be for the lulz but that is much less probable
