Leaked alpha footage of 'that other' W40K game.
View it quick, apparently THQ is trying to cover it up as it wasn't meant to be released.

If you were making a game and had been keeping it fairly well hidden for around a year, would you want it's first public announcement to be a buggy, incomplete presentation that was meant for the publishers eyes only?

Dammit, missed it. Quick summary anyone?

Yeah my bad, I misunderstood what you meant by "wasn't meant to be released" I thought you were talking about the game. It was sort of late.
Basically, Tut, you are a space-marine running around in pretty Gothic-esque environments with ships and explosions happening all around you. The big thing that they're trying to sell is "intimate brutality" which is basically close combat with a chain sword with really cool cinematic finishing moves that at least already made me feel like I was in an action movie. You have a bolter but all it's really good for is stunning enemies so you can run up to them and chainsword their guts out. Looked pretty Gears-y from what I could tell, really epic environments, neat cinematics and hopefully cool combat.
Even from the buggy version they used I got a real sense of the epic nature of the game. It's not like I can really say too much based on the video, El always knows way more about these things than I do but that's my take on it.

Added a second link.
Don't be like the idiots on Youtube judging the gameplay, controls, weapons, or anything of this video - as an alpha it is nothing more than a working demonstration of the engine.

I was just regurgitating what the developer said. Didn't read any comments.

I love what THQ has done with the license and the only problem I have with the concept of "run and gun" is that the bolter is not a light machine gun. In the background it fires mini grenades. However that is a minor issue and with the inclusion of some extra gear for your marine I would say this is a game for me.
I am well aware that this is alpha.

I just had a goregasm.
I'm sure they'll accommodate for wargear, such as in the footage we just saw he'll have a bolt pistol or storm bolter instead of a bolter.

In a game focused on just one space marine, I would certainly hope that they throw as much equipable stuff as possible your way. That being said I also hope that they do bring cover into the game as well as squad based stuff every now and then.

You could be a neophyte trying to prove yourself! Hence lone wolf and lots of gore.

If you say so man. I won't pretend to know anything about lore. It just seemed to me that squad combat was one of the biggest things that made up the 40k game.

Theres room for flexibility and interpretation because theres so much fluff on the 40k universe. They certainly seemed to have nailed the atmosphere well in my opinion, I always imagined human worlds to be grimy and incredibly gothic.

From the little I read of the only 40k book I own before I chucked it aside for something that didn't reek, I gather the same. The atmosphere is really very nicely done. The cinematics that que the entrance of more baddies reminded me a bit of Halo 2 for some reason. Though the final blows are downright schmeksy I hope they can pull those other clips off without making it seem too much like arcade-style cheese. I was talking with a warhammer savvy friend today and if the main character is once again a Blood Raven, I'll assume that they can pretty much do whatever the hell they want as far as fluff goes.

It's definitely not a Blood Raven.

Wow, sounds like its from the top of the guys head at the start.. Rather than explaining how the indoor environments are its more like, err, heres some of the hallways ahahah.
It's not something the public is supposed to see, that's for sure, more of an early dev status report for there publisher.

Except that's kind of what a Space Marine is, a genetically engineered zealot supersoldier.
Also, couldn't be a neophyte because he's wearing full power armour.

Yeah but when fighting other genetically modified super soldiers (chaos) and the likes of the Tyranids, I'm sure that working together has its bonuses.

Blood Angels are red too, and they are close combat based, that might make more sense. But yeah I thought he was a ultramarine too.

Will take your word for it. My friend just said that Blood Ravens are usually used in games so they can expand whatever fluff they want rather than being constrained to the story of a specific chapter with a more set history.

Blood Ravens were created by Relic, for Dawn of War. Nobody usually uses them in games at all as they've only ever been in one.
The one in the video wasn't from any chapter I recognise, but it's hard to say from the bad video quality and lighting. It does look somewhat like an Ultramarine but my money is on another new chapter created specifically for the franchise by the developers, much like the Blood Ravens. That scarred skull is probably their symbol.
