By now I'm sure most of you know about the 2008 Olympic Games held in Beijing have begun.
I have always liked the Games for whatever reason. Of course I like rooting for the US for obvious reasons, but I also tend to pull for nations/countries that have players in professional leagues over here, too.
One last thing, human rights? Can't help but notice it.
Thoughts?

summer Olympics are boring, and having to watch the news and see
all those protesters complaining about Tibet is even more annoying.
The Olympics are about athletes, protesters need to get jobs and stop
living off of welfare checks protesting china/g8 summits/every other
so called event they attend. Useless fucking hippies ftl.

I was watching some of it today, did enjoy. There was a great game of badminton on. Though I am of the firm belief that the Chinese government abducts babies at birth and trains them solely to be Olympic athletes.

Yeah its been interesting so far, and pretty good for the brits too, except for some cases, for example i dunno how Andy Murray could achieve such epic amounts of fail like he did yesderday, he must of smoked a fat joint before he got on the court because i dont know how the number 6 ranked tennis player in the world could lose in straight sets to some random Taiwoneese guy.

Should have been faster, it's gone now, replaced with shitty slideshows. CHINESE GOVERNMENTS REMOVED ALL EVIDENCE.
To sum it up though, Hungarian lifts 150KG or whatever it was, elbow pops out of its socket and turns inside out, arm bends in nasty ways, weight lands on him, he falls to the floor and starts spasming and screaming.
And the judges then gave him 0 points for good measure.

Anyway, I've been watching a lot of the gymnastics because they do lots of flippy things and the scoring system the judges have seems to be majorly flawed. I've watched almost perfect routines and seen scores worse than people who have fallen and made critical mistakes. I don't get it.

They were unfairly scoring the American female gymnasts in the all-round final event last night despite flawless performances until the coordinator told the judges to stop it. I was baffled to see 8.9 - 9.2 scores with perfect landings and no loss of balance, not that I'm an expert or anything. US was able to win gold and silver in the event though.

China's opening ceremonies and desire to dominate everyone other than the rest of Asia are what remind me of the Berlin games. Historically, China has had a paternalistic attitude towards other countries. With regard to the games, they've relocated thousands of people for the games, creating a large displaced homeless population solely for the purpose of building a few nasty looking stadiums. They're also walling off sections of Beijing to keep westerners out of the rest of the city. I just find it ironic that a repressive autocratic regime is hosting something like the Olympic games, especially since the Chinese are trying to show off their greatness. It kind of contradicts the ideals of the olympics in my opinion. I want to watch athletes compete, not the flexing of political muscle.

1. The 200 girls who walked every nation into the stadion had to pose naked in front of "judges" beforehand, to be measured if they were pretty enough for the job. Measured height, shoulder lenght, and the size of the breasts. Some of the girls who werent "worthy" were later brought in as actors. 400 of them. They had to dress in white and stand around the stadion. The orders were: smile, laugh, and wave. They also rehearsed a 3,5 minute long "umbrella scene" everyday for 6 months.
2. The 900 soldiers who were in the seremoni had to wear diapers, because no bathroom breaks were allowed during the entire opening.
3. TV images of the fireworks during the seremoni were computer animated.
4. Yang Peiyi , a 7 year old girl was singing during the seremoni, and melted peoples hearts, however, the girl on the actuall stage was just an actor pretending to be the one singing. Yang Peiyi was apperantly "too chubby, and had crooked teeth" so she had to hide behind stage, while a "cuter" girl was in stage. China has stated that they did what was best for their country, lol.
5. Each of the 56 children who were supposed to come from different ethnical groups in China were all Han-chinese. (Which is what 90 percent of the country is, rofl). They were wearing costumes to indicate which group they represented. They claimed that "this shows that our country is united and that we all live together in harmoni". (Thats what they said before people found out anyways).
And then theres what santana said ^
