This is where I am going to be entering the Silent Hill franchise. However it is published by konami it is being developed by americans. However from the previews I have read from various sources this is not hurting the game. As silent hill 4 was generally thought to be a let down by the SH fanbase the yanks are returning the series to its roots. These being a man looking for his son (and father?) in hicksville USA and Silent hill. With a new combat system (the main character is an ex armyman) it has the american touch. The new system conists of locking on to a enemy by use of the left trigger (360) then having an option for a fast quick attack or a heavy charge up (this is for a knife). Then once the enemy is suitably battered a chance for a gory finishing sequence is to be had. The imagery is very reminiscent of SH 2 (i did a bit of research) and reading the backstory to that it seems like I will be very impressed with this game and as such I am planning to buy it. I did not see a topic for this within the past 4 pages of the subforum and if this is a repeat feel free to flame. If not...... Discuss.

I've never played a SH game, but after watching the film a while back (and yes I know it butchers the game) I was intrigued. I haven't heard of this, what format is on?

I saw the movie as well and I rather liked it.
It is on 360 for sure and I would think ps3 but not sure.

Does it require playing the X number of previous games beforehand?

I honestly don't think so as it would murder to game sales.

Yes well unfortunately for you, some people prefer sharing information and opinions on the subject of interest with other people. The whole point of forums is to foster conversation instead of just saying "I googled it. Do not post. Do not ask. Questions through human communication is obsolete."

Anyway Here are some of the latest media I could find if anyone is interested other than myself. I am in the same boat as Elanzer, saw the film and was intrigued.

Spoilers on this one
SH Homecoming Guide scans (some bad grammar there but its in the game its a walkthrough/guide publication) Good for seeing the variety of the monsters and some of the back story to the upcoming game.

The only Silent Hill game I've ever played was Silent Hill 3, which was pretty scary, well, back when I was a wee little lad. Looks interesting though, I'm too lazy to check, but is it coming out for the PC?

I've been banned from the Silent hill forums thrice now for being a smartarse, so care to show me how they've excused themselves for being americunts this time?
The movie is nothing like the games, so if you're intrigued just because of that
shame on you.

I will be buying SH 2 (which pretty much is hailed as ze best) alongside it. So i can compare. The movie was bad but it made me curious about the game.
Which parts do you want shaun? the screens or the talk.
Shaun
Sep 29 2008, 08:31 AM
Whichever will change my mind about it most. A clever mix of both?
Also, you'll want to play the first 3 Silent hills before you play this new one. 2 is the best, and 1 and 3 are linked together. 4 Isn't even silent hill so don't bother.
FUCKING EDIT:
OH WOW. Pyramid head is now called BOGEYMAN, and they've added the fucking order members in gas masks from the movie. WELL DONE AMERICA.
Edit again: The only thing i'm currently looking forward to about SH5 is returning to the original 'old' silent hill. Sighhhh

And the argument
QUOTE
I love the Silent Hill series... the first game I played was SH2 on the PC when it first came out. I almost didn't play far because I didn't know what to do at the apartments... luckily 1 year later (just before SH3 came to PC) I got a non spoiler guide... and had to most amazing game experience of my life. Did i understand the game..not really, but i didn't care!
I then proceeded to find some of the various SH fan sites to get answers...and I then became one of you crazy SH fans. This was YEARS AGO. I had played all the games and have been on the many forums since.
Now we have the new game SHH around the corner..and all I have read for the last month is making judgement on the WHOLE game on one or two things and the game isn't even out yet...
Lets clear some things up shall we...these are my opinion...
"SHH has a crappy trailer"
The ONLY SH game that had a really good trailer before was Silent Hill 4. (EVERYONE was geeked when they saw it) SH1 didn't show much, SH2 only have a good moment with James and Maria,SH3's trailer was a mess.... The only complaint about SHH trailer i have is Josh's voice... to out of place... the rest gets my blood pumping!
"SHH has terrible textures"
I've played or seen almost every new game out there, and the only game that has amazing textures when viewed close up is CRYSIS. All other Next Gen games have so-so textures here and there when viewed close up as well, so be fair here. I agree there are moments where SHH could be a bit crisper, but nothing THAT bad...
"The combat looks wrong or wierd in SHH"
No, actually SHH is the ONLY SH game to have the combat and shooting look RIGHT. All the previous games had terrible combat. Origins was better though (Toasters make a great thud don't they?)
"The monsters in SHH are copying from other games"
This has been the case with ALL the SH games (except 1 of course). SH3 nurses and closer were copied from SH2 nurses and the fence climbing thing. SH3 Valiel is PH without the Pyramid. SH4 got dogs from 3 and 1. Origins got Straight Jacket guys and nurses from SH2,etc...
I agree the first time I saw the Nurses and PH and the bugs in SHH I was bummed... but they do LOOK awesome and the other Monsters are VERY original and cool looking!
"I don't like the new camera view in SHH"
I wasn't too keen at first, but was very happy to see them make the change. The old camera is just that...old...very limiting. It was mainly designed around the limitations of memory on the old systems, so they could load in more stuuf for each room you enter... this also limits gameplay a lot. Don't get me wrong, I love SH1's alley way scenes, but most gamers out there don't like controls that change on you on the fly anymore. Maybe we will see some "alley" type views in the new game...who knows?
"Only 6 weapons total"
I agree, that Origins had awesome weapons, but we don't know for sure about the only 6 weapons comments made. We have seen more than that in pics...wait and see!
"If its not Team Silent..it will suck!"
I had this attitude at first when Origins was coming out... but after playing Origins i was blown away. I had very FEW complaints about Origins. It fixed a lot of the wrongs made in previous games, and still had good SH type atmosphere and "feeling". If we didn't know that it WASN'T Team Silent making it...people would have had very different opinions I think.
I am not saying SHH is perfect based on what we saw...but keep in mind we have been exposed to MUCH more of this game than any other SH game before they came out.
The complaints people have are mostly things that have LITTLE to do with the Silent Hill experience.
The experience we all crave comes from PLAYING the game alone at night with the lights off and no outside sounds using either headphones or a good sound system. We each knows what that means, and shouldn't make a judgment on SHH until the game has been completed.
Not my sentiments just thought it was interesting to see the perspective.

NegativeLukewarm reveiwFrom the above that made me

QUOTE
While Homecoming's look and feel are in line with Silent Hill, the narrative's much clearer. It still deals with familiar series themes (love, forgiveness, sin, redemption), but it's also the most straightforward story to date. By the time I reached one of the game's multiple endings, I had a clear understanding of exactly what happened, and why -- leaving little for me to think about afterward -- whereas previous games were incredibly nuanced and downright confusing, no matter which ending you received.
Leaning on getting this because I was pretty much set on getting this anyway regardless of the reveiws. But definately will be getting as much as the previous series (1-3) as possible due to not having a PS.

Exploration into this
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=oywfsv2SJNgQUOTE
They're entities that take the form of -someone's- emotions and memories (more specifically memories). It's not necessarily the protagonist's memories, because the monsters in SH1 and SH3 represented Alessa's memories, instead.
What these entities are, exactly, is more unknown. They're not demons, though. They're actually more divine, though they look like monsters to us.
I find it more interesting than "omg sum guise stole ma famileh n i r army veteran so letz go blow shit up. omg theres monsters wtf."
Plenty of other stuff, but it's basically what the first 3 games were about, so i'll not explain.
