Not bad, for the price... Just don't expect to play games well on it.

Well I'm not too worried about that. I bought it mainly for college and practical use.
I was running CS:S on a FX5200 so anything equivalent or better than that is fine with me.

Good for the value yes, and pretty much any laptop nowadays can do the basic educational usage scenarios without problems, at least its a bit more unique then the others with that hideous paint job

Yeah looks nice, i was thinking about getting that myself when it came out for school use and collage in the future. But then i said nah, ill just wait and when i go to collage ill spend money on a mac or getting a gaming laptop so i can at least enjoy some games.

You think it's hideous??
I thought it kind of looked cool. Well everyone is entitled to their opinions.
And it runs smooth as anything. I'm really impressed with it so far.

I guess it depends on how you use it really, I'd have to see you use it in a College Campus coffee shop or something to see how much of a cock you look with it, but as far as just buying it for the paint job, its hideous. I say if you want it to be a bit different, get something that doesn't look like you listen to My Chemical Romance and slit your wrists

Like I said, you're entitled to your opinion. I think you're being a bit extreme but hey, that's just me. It's a special edition series so that's the only reason it has the paint job.
Yea Downloaded I got a really good deal. After getting software and accessories, the entire thing came to a total of $1,402 and change. That's not bad considering some laptops start at a base price of that.

Should be OK for older games and CS:S etc though you may need to turn down the settings a bit.

Yeah, i agree, i think it looks good. i'm actually in the market for a laptop as well. That is a great deal.
What software did you add?
Silverbullet7
Jul 16 2008, 08:51 PM
I only got Microsoft Office 2007: Student and Teacher Edition and Norton360.
The total for both of those was something like 200 or 215.
And hey, I bought it so you're not the only one who likes the style.

Double post. Sorry.
CSS runs at a constant 50-75 fps. Fluctuating between the numbers.
Here's a few shots of what my game looks like.

And the real game...

And just for shits and giggles. Full settings and resolution...

Might want to compensate for JPEG quality.

Simply put yes, every single one i have gotten has either had catastrophic failures, or it became to slow to use after only a year, now i know that's pretty insignificant, technology just ages like that, but on a tight budget it was hard to really get your money's worth. I've had desktops the whole time, and the worst problems have happened because of my terrible assembly skills
Silverbullet7
Jul 17 2008, 02:38 AM
I don't think the one I have will be crapping out any time soon. I want it to last at least 4 years for college, though I'm aware technology will improve a bunch over those years.

I'm proud of you Silver, BUT... CSS really isn't good indicator of what your computer can do. My lappy can run it at almost your settings flawlessly too, and yours is a hell of a lot better than mine. Install a few more challenging games.
Also, Norton really does suck. Get BitDefender, McAfee, hell... even AVG would do the trick.

Well you have to know that I'm used to an FX 5200 and was using it for at least 7 years. So it looks good to me. And I don't know much about Spyware, Virus, and Internet protection products so I'll just have to agree with you.

I just learned by testing stuff and norton is undeniably THE WORST. it might look good, but with the games available today and your laptop you really shouldn't settle for "good" you can get "great". Much better in any case.

Pretty much, I keep a very close eye on things anytime I run an .exe that may be of dubious origin, check the usual signs, locations, processes, etc. No doubt if I was specifically targeted I wouldn't have a prayer but picking up sleepers there's never been anything that gets past unnoticed.

You could just take the hassle out keeping an eye on everything by just buying a "great" virus/spyware protection.

Saving resources as in, "I like my PC to go fast so I don't want an antivirus hogging memory/processor cycles probing files in the background all day" saving resources.

Kind of an update:
I've found that the wireless network connection is extremely unreliable. It seems that the connection randomly cuts in and out. Anyone know how to fix this? It's pretty annoying especially when I'm in my own home and it can't connect to my network.
Rifleman
Jul 28 2008, 01:20 AM
Either your wireless card inside is fucked or you're not getting a good signal because of distance or wall thickness \ material.
What encryption are you using for your wireless as well? WEP is very insecure for example and in some cases can actually affect reliability.
Santana Claws
Jul 28 2008, 01:26 AM
WPA ftw?
Silverbullet7
Jul 28 2008, 02:40 AM
I'm using WEP because that's what my router has. Or at least that's all I know it has. It's definitely not distance because I've put my laptop next to it and it's still unreliable. And we have FiOS so I don't think it's weak signal strength.

Jul 28 2008, 03:34 AM
