excl.gif Hey guys, I'm new to Steam now, and also have an original version of CSS. Ok, here's my problem:

See, I have my Steampapps folder stored on my extenal drive, and don't have internet on my main PC, so, I use a laptop(connected to external) to update my CSS. Try to go to offline mode, follow all directions. And, I guess, it would work quite fine, on my laptop at least.

Plug in my external back to my main PC, I try CSS(offline), and get approximately the following error: "Unable to connect to the steam network. 'Offline mode' is unavailable because there is no Steam login information stored on this computer.
You will not be able to use Steam until you can connect to the Steam network again."

Any advice, friends??? sad.gif

you need to login on to Steam on the computer you want to use it on, and then in steam on your pc while connected(online) go to File>Go Offline. At this point you can unplug your pc from the modem or whatever, and when you restart steam the system tray icon for steam will have some red stuff in it, not sure how to describe it, but it will be obvious if you do it right, Also you posted in the wrong section.

Oh sorry 'bout that wrong topic thing, don't know where to put it. Also, I know how to go offline mode, but the PC I want to go offline on does NOT have internet... Can't easily get it... biggrin.gif

hmmmm actually I think there is a way to fix this by going into your steam folder and copying over your account information onto your desktop... If i remember correctly (not 100% positive) the file should be a .blob... You could also just play on your laptop.

U mean clientregistry? Well, first, the game is only stored in one place, me external. My laptop is ... a lame Celeron...

aaaah, dunno how to help you then, other than getting your desktop internet.

hehe, don't worry guys, I think I just found it on goog-le...

Great, now that I've tried that stupid advice, it still doesn't work! I don't know, but so far everyone that has posted the same problem leaves with no answer!! Pain in the neck I tell ya...

is Steam installed on the External or on your internal one in your PC?

surprisingly enough, Yahoo! answers often has a lot of good information, look through there or ask a question of your own.

Well, then you need to connect the pc to the internet and allow steam to update, it's something with steams programming to prevent piracy that dates back to when they first started.

This may sound stupid, but just copy your entire Steam folder to your external, the only things you don't need are the other games.
