Well several years on since the tedium that was Tactics we have a new developer taking up the Fallout mantle. And gawd does it look different.
Original Screens (Fallout)

Compared to the Fallout 3 screens

Official SiteTeaser TrailerRelease Date is tentatively set at October 7, 2008 if you can believe Amazon.
QUOTE
* The game can use both first-person and third-person perspective.
* Main character creation is implemented by specifying the character's childhood. The character's mother dies in labor in a Vault hospital, after which the player chooses the character's Traits and general appearance during the father's DNA analysis. Afterwards, the father removes his surgeon's mask to reveal a face much like the one chosen by the player for the character.
* As a child in the Vault, the character receives a book titled "You're SPECIAL", whereupon you'll set the character's 7 primary aptitudes. The character receives training weapons and a PIP-boy during childhood, and the player's performance in various tests determines the rest of the attributes. Additionally, there will be quests inside the Vault that influence the pc's relationship with his or her father.
* Skills and Perks are similar to those in previous games: the player chooses 3 Tag Skills out of 14 to be the character's specialties, and the character will gain a Perk every other level. 4 skills have been cut out from the game (Fallout and Fallout 2 had 18 skills) but it is unknown what skills have been cut off.
* The maximum level the player can achieve is level 20.
* The player will have a maximum party of three, consisting of himself/herself, Dogmeat, and a single NPC. Dogmeat can be killed during the game if the player misuses him or places him in a severely dangerous situation and cannot be replaced.[7]
* There will be a definite end to the game, with over 1700 possible ending permutations based on good/evil/neutral events you trigger.
* The Vault-tec Assisted Targeting System, or V.A.T.S. will be implemented. Various actions cost action points, and both the player and enemies can target specific body areas for attacks, inflicting specific injuries. While using V.A.T.S., real-time combat is paused creating a combat system that the Bethesda developers have described as a hybrid between turn-based and real-time combat.
* The game will have a high level of gore. While using V.A.T.S., the gory deaths in the game will be shown in slow motion. One of the featured screenshots is of a super-mutant's head exploding in great detail.
* The game will feature a new health and radiation system. The player can measure an object's radioactivity and gauge the effect it will have on the character.
* Firearms wear out after time; as a weapon degenerates, its rate of fire slows and it loses accuracy. However, worn out firearms can be combined to make more reliable and powerful weapons.
* Weapon schematics can be found and used to create various devices such as rocket launchers or the clever shrapnel bomb, made out of a Vault-Tec lunchbox and bottlecaps.
For players of the previous Fallout games:
* In addition to having Dogmeat in your party you will be able to send him out on his own to search for items such as arms and ammo, radiation meds, and stimpacks. Dogmeat cannot be killed nor harmed while he is out searching for items.

thanks man, looks good, currently downloading the second game.
didn't realize it was an rpg so i probably will get into this game.

Having almost finished Fallout and just started #2 I have to say. The begining is a bit tedious and the open worldliness of it is a little intimidating but they are great games. Though the 1st one is more dearer to my heart.

I liked the other Fallout games I played, but this one isn't made by the same developers and is somewhat messing with the story, so meh. It will be good though.

yea, some of the stuff i am reading is from concerned fans, they say
the new company is butchering the game and the hype has died down
a bit for the 3rd installment.

I never modded my version, I was so obsessed with the regular version of the game that I racked up over 90 hours of gameplay.

I saw the E3 videos and I rather liked it (the trailer) but the demonstration was poorly done. I wanted to know about the alternate paths not the lol post-nuclear apocalypse FPS with no hint of rpg other then bloody mess that they displayed. Though I thought the little black and white vault ad was genius. I am getting this even if it is reviewed to be shit.

New gameplay videos were much better (can't be arsed to link, just go search gamtrailers).
Even though it is just a reskinned Oblivion, do at least sort of want slightly now. If only for the power fist.

Watched all the new gameplay videos, and I was not impressed. Like you said, it's reskinned Oblivion. I might just be "obtaining" this one later on to play around with it.
Elanzer
Aug 31 2008, 10:17 AM
I'll definitely be 'obtaining' it too, at least until they revoke their latest statement that they haven't bothered making mod tools. Mods were what made Oblivion great, it was unplayable as vanilla with its stupid levelling system and no doubt some of that awful design will leak through.

I seen that, but i'm sure people can mod it with out having a SDK or mod tool.

I did some minor Oblivion modding myself, and without the construction set/equivalent nobody can do shit. Use replacement textures... that's about it.

They made it to where it is censored globally.
So no real drug names..
i don't see the big deal.
I mean if you play CSS you can't complain, they got all the fake weapon names..

That's for legal reasons. The removal of drug references is due to Australia's strict video game ratings.

If you can play without the real names of the guns, you can play without the real drug names.

Side note, Fallout 3's DRM is going to be the same as Oblivion, just a disk check. None of that Spore and Bioshock bullshit.

All Fallout 3 games have just gone gold. And the X360 version has found its way to torrent sites 3 weeks early. That sucks for them.

I don't think I can tell you that here. It wouldn't work for you because your 360 isn't modded... That doesn't mean you should mod it though, IMO the losses are far greater than the gains and having a hard copy in your hands is just that much more rewarding.

Oct 13 2008, 08:21 PM
Well if you have to mod your 360 to do it....
I can see how that would work. Thanks for clarifying.

There aren't any downsides if you use the firmware way and keep it updated.
