New info, nothing particularly interesting but meh:

QUOTE
    *  Mini-map has been replaced with a "bread crumb trail;" a dynamic golden line on the ground that directs you to a destination (read: medieval GPS)
    * Magic system is divided into focused, single-foe attacks and ranged attacks; attacks can be built up into five levels using various spell combinations
    * Speaking of spells, there'll be just eight (but remember, they can be combined)
    * Every house in the game is up for sale; each house will unlock a sidequest, item or skill
    * Rough estimation: 20-30 times larger than the first Fable [Microsoft says: "a world 10 times the size of the iconic Xbox game"]
    * The gameworld features seasons and dynamic weather
    * Cutscenes are interactive; the d-pad can be used to issue certain gestures that will steer conversations
    * Sex minigame was canned; instead, screen goes dark and moaning ensues (sex can still be unprotected though! Babies, yes; STDs, unconfirmed)
    * Female character was almost canned; almost.
    * And finally: Three more Fable sequels are being planned. (Lionhead is currently wrapping up Fable 2 and focusing on an announced project.)

It'll be out in winter. The XBLA minigames that allow you to earn gold before starting the main game will be released beforehand.

Cant say I really care, but I picked up the original fable and enjoyed it a lot though it made me feel dirty playing it. I think i will wait until this game is in the bargain bin before shelling out for it. There are so many games that are worth my money being released shortly that Fable 2 is just a faint blip on the radar.
Good to know the new info though.
Elanzer
It's not like it's out next week, you've still got around 6-7 months.

I'm really excited about Fable 2. The Dog seems like a pretty cool addition, the graphics are fantastic and I like the idea of being able to buy out every shop and residence in the game. Cities look great and I'm thinking the combat will be cool but not anything too revolutionary. The only thing I'm really kind of skeptical of is the time period being further into the future than I would have expected.

It was actually one of the games that convinced me to buy a 360. I know that sounds stupid considering all the other great games out there but I really did like the first Fable and I'm currently replaying it.
KingTut
Not sure if this was clear but i was reffering to the amount of releases that I want to purchase that come out around the time of Fable 2.

It hasn't advanced too far, trusts. Only real difference is they've only got old firelocks now. If you want to compare to 'reality', could be as little ahead as 250 years.

Is nice.

and that's a fairly shoddy example I was watching some demo vids given by good old Peter himself and the graphics were fantabulous. Yeah I know it's not that big of a jump. I never said they were headed for the 21st century or anything but I'm not sure I like guns in the fable environment. I certainly won't judge it till I've got it though and I plan on getting it when it comes out for sure! smile.gif
Elanzer
Wait, you said that image is shoddy? That's a newer image than the video you speak of, the visuals weren't completed when that was made, this one is only a few days old and the game is now content complete.

And put it this way, if you want to compare the Fable world to the real world then technically they should have had guns in the first game. They won't just change much (just like reality), they'll just be a replacement for the crossbows of the original.
Downloaded
Maybe it's just the computer I'm using to look at it right now then because it seemed to me that those visuals were much more pleasing. I understand what you're getting at as far as guns go. I'd just come to accept the Fable universe the way it was and guns for some reason make it seem a little alien to me.

Like I said, I'm still dead-set on getting it.
Santana Claws
I really enjoyed the first one years ago, I'll consider getting this. I just hope its a lot longer than the first one.
Downloaded
first one took me about 3 days to beat on a break and I'm generally very lazy about playing/beating games past a certain point. If this one can keep me as interested as the last one did then I'd be more than happy to beat it.
Elanzer
Hot tip: Try to 'play' games instead of 'beating' them.
Rifleman
You mean Try to?
Elanzer
Yes, thank you.
Downloaded
if when you say "play" you mean gain as much enjoyment from a game as possible then I generally do do that whether I beat the game or not. Fable was just one of the only games that could keep me engaged all the way through is all I'm saying.

Bump. New interview on NPCs.

QUOTE
IGN: How fully developed are the personalities of these NPCs? Will some nasty fellows be more likely to offer you quests or assistance if you've been playing as a rogue?
Carter: It very much depends on the person we're talking about. Some people only offer you tasks because of things you've done in the past. Some people don't even exist due to things you've done in the past. And, as ever, the whole world will eventually get to hear about what you've done and just what kind of person you are.

IGN: How many NPCs like these three will we run into in Fable 2?
Carter: I don't want to give away too much at this point, but let's just say we've got about 50 hours of recorded dialogue for our NPCs. That's probably more than the entire box-set of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." And let me tell you, I sat in front of "Buffy" for a long time. With a stop-watch. Just for this interview, you understand.

IGN: Are we likely to run into generic NPCs who don't have any unique interactions…people who in the first Fable would have just been there to impress with trophies?
Carter: As stated previously – we've a huge, huge amount of dialogue, and we've tried to use that mass of audio data to create a mixture of quirky, bizarre, interesting NPCs and other 'normal folk'. However, there are even rewards from interaction with 'normal folk'. We felt we missed an opportunity to tie in the main story gameplay with the simulation in "Fable 1," and I think we've definitely addressed this in "Fable 2."

IGN: Will prominent NPCs (like a mayor, for example) thoughts towards you affect the rest of the populous in that town or is each NPC an individual vessel?
Carter: Each NPC is an incredibly complex mix of personal quirks and tastes (some are definitely questionable). One person will absolutely loathe you because of something trivial, like your taste in clothing, while another will fall for you because of what you stand for. Both their viewpoints are justifiable and 'right', and alter how they react to you. We're actually dedicating a section of the interface to these aspects of a character's personality so you can quickly grasp what makes them tick. We considered adding 'influenced by…' stats as well at one point, but realized that without displaying a rather complex 'social-network' screen, this was going to be too subtle.

IGN: Can I do the old trick of killing a character and then buying the vacant house on the cheap?
Carter: Most definitely – if you're that way inclined. On the other hand, if you're feeling less bloodthirsty, you can become friends with the owner first, so he'll give you a discount on the house price without resorting to premeditated murder. See what a nice game we're making? Try to contain your bloodlust!

IGN: If I play as a good hero, will my dog recognize Arfur as a rogue and growl at him?
Carter: No – the dog's an extension of your hero's personality in the world (mixed with how you've treated him). If you're working with Arfur, your dog realizes that this means you're an evil, slimy rat-bastard yourself, so he doesn't want to get in the way of any potential business dealings. He takes his cues from you. But if you threaten Arfur, he'll growl too… if you've trained him to do so.

IGN: You say Arfur is a "seedy" character. If I plant an Arfur, will it grow into an Arfur tree?
Carter: What's that? An acorn joke? To a "Fable" developer? You really are evil!

You guys may not be excited about this release but this is probably the game I'm looking most forward to in all of '08.

[EDIT]

Do we like the idea of not dying in Fable 2?
batmAn IV²
I can't say I like OR dislike it.

I mean...eh...the first game was easy enough, and you COULD die...now what's going to happen? We'll see I guess. Still totally pumped.

I swear, you're the only other person on the forum. First game was way too easy, but awesome, I hope they counter-balance the no dying SOMEHOW.

New nuggets.

QUOTE
Good and Evil expanded. There are four traits to consider now, with purity/corruption and kindness/cruelty determining your overall character, as well as changing your appearance. Those stained by corruption will find their teeth turning crooked and yellow, to give one example.

No HUD. In an effort to streamline the experience as much as possible, Fable 2 won't have a HUD.

No cutscenes. Non-interactive cinematics take up less than five minutes of game time.

No more bumpkins. The voice acting has been kicked up a couple of notches, as Fable 2 moves away from the country bumpkin speak of its predecessor. Stephen Fry is one of the confirmed voice actors.

Expansion on alignment is something I really want in games, I wish they just used the D&D system sometimes but this is certainly a massive improvement over just good or bad. No comment about cutscenes or HUD, doesn't bother me or impress. But most importantly, voice acting. Stephen Fry is God, but...

I WANT MY WEST COUNTRY BUMPKIN VOICES BACK. Fucking chicken chasers. Let us take a minute aside from our lives to remember them now.

"You don't look like a Chicken Chaser to me, then again I haven't met one before..."
"There's something about the name chicken chaser that makes you sound like a cock"

Genius. RIP old Fable.

I totally agree to the voices, they added a great light-hearted humor aspect to Fable that I really like. If all the bumpkins are replaced with stuck up intelligent ass holes it would take the game experience down several notches for me.

Dunno who Stephen Fry is.

One reason I suspect they're doing away with the HUD is because they want your doggy friend to be big part of the game. I guess they've put a lot of effort into his AI and he's supposed to act like your map (maybe I should say guide).

What do you mean by the D&D system?

I kind of saw the allignment expansion coming for a while, they'd been hinting about being "noble" and "greedy" which aren't traits directly associated with good/evil, saying that they would also affect your appearance and the way those around you react.
Elanzer
I suppose you don't know who Hugh Laurie is either?

You're overhyping the dog a little, it's not that great.

And yes D&D alignment. You have seen it before:

P-Mol is the one drawing all the attention to the dog, I'm just repeating what I've seen and adding what I think based on that. It makes sense that if they want the doggy to be your guide they're not going to put in a minimap. I just hope it doesn't mean that I'll constanly have to pause and look on the big map if the dog ends up being a massive failure. Lionhead appears to be really proud of the dog though.
Elanzer
I wouldn't say so, I've seen almost nothing on it in a long time.

well yeah, they can't JUST talk about the dog.
Elanzer
That's because there's not much to say. It acts as something similar to the Y button in Gears of War. AMZANIG.
Downloaded
That's being a little unfair though, you have NO control over the dog. He reacts to the environment according to whether or not he deems it safe (if it's been explored before or not), if it seems you want him to explore, or if he feels you need a buddy close by. He also attacks and defends without command.

The Y button in Gears was more of an "oh look!" function.
Elanzer
I wouldn't say it has anything to do with the HUD removal though, it's not a talking dog, it doesn't tell your health or how much 'magic' you have left, it's certainly not a map, all it does is point out things in the environment and vaguely assist in combat really.

Anyway, where the fuck is Tut?
Downloaded
ENGLAND! He'll be back soon-ish I think.

It's supposed to be your main exploration tool/guide though and if you're got to spend your valuable resources fixing him up after battle he'd better have some effect, right?

I see nothing but good for this game. Stephen Fry is the closest thing that we have to Jesus. Country Bumpkins will be missed but everything else is fantastic. Now don't pull a Fable one Peter, please.....

I have faith in P-Mol for this one. Excuse my naivety but could you please expand on Pub Games? wuts dat?

Pub games is similar to Fable 1. They are the mini games in which you bet gold in order to win it. Yes it does, emphasis on might however.
