Why would I want to lower the quality of my game?  I run at 140 FPS with max settings at 1280 x 1024. Heck, with DOD:S and full HDR at the same other settings I still get 60 - 90 fps.

lol...140 fps thats hard to belive unless u r running a AMD FX 57 with SLi or ATi Crossfire Or even Top of the range Intel and might i add about 2gig of ddr2 ram. all that said if u do have about 2 grand to spend on a system like that good luck to you but i doubt any system under that could run css on top settings throughout at 140 fps and as for me my system is not the above so thank you mad hatter for the cfg's they should come in use...

funny_man catches on quick, woot!! which part? the part about elliot or the part about the quality of my first post? i guess both those "observations" are rather low-brow... ****** it. anyway speaking of fps, ive got a slightly older video card. i paid what i thought was alot for it a couple years ago, and its not directX9.0 compatible, boo hoo. we all know how that goes. anyway, my graphics are still pretty good as far as im concerned. i got a pretty fast cpu and an abundance of ram. on css and hl2 ive got most of my settings (the ones it grants me, lowly 8.1 compatible bottom feeder) maxed. one thing though, thats really irks me lately, is how recent updates to the game, perhaps the graphics engine itself, have caused objects (players, crates, barrels) to "disappear" the further away they get. i was was getting shot by people i really couldnt see, and usually im a big fan of the long shot, and now i cant see them long? i dont think so. the objects actually are blending in to their surroundings too much to see. i figured out it has something to do with env lighting. if i enable env lighting for a texture in a .vmt file, and set the saturation settings for that texture to zero, the texture WONT fade, at all, it will remain rather stark at any given "distance". anyway, the problem is, that if i set up the .vmt file the way ive described, then vac technology servers (har har) will yield me one of those consistency errors. BUT, if i load up a map prior to connecting to a server with the .vmt, i can minimize the game and slip the vmts out prior to connecting, and slip them in after ive connected. this seems to work quite nicely, until the server changes maps. so, am i a hack or am i just a customer trying to salvage the wreckage of something that i purchased one way, only to have it degraded (argueably ruined) into something lesser? has anyone else had this problem?

meh for me lowering all my settings gave me a 5fps boost, from 40-45, but with everything on full with now HDR i get a constant 39-50 fps

this is just a suggestion before i get flamed again i would say 100 fps should suit any gamer just fine but i would say under 60 is pushing it. however anything above that mark w00t ur in for a great game any way thank you so very much for your second bit of sarcasim dave its just a pitty u aimed it at someone who is just not interested in retorting oh btw i have had the problem u have had (no honestly) the only difference was that mine was caused by lag and the fact that i run my inet from a router but via the wi-fi connection the disserpearing act was a common thing rite in front of me too as well as far away :S

lol i have a dualcore sli 2gb ram all that 1280x1024 lcd mode, i recomend anyone who can afford that ... do it, i came from 3000+ amd and gf5600...the difference is unbeleavable

ok im in cstrike/cfg theres the cs.cfg file but when i press it it goes to windows cannot open file. where do i put the commands in at i know in cstrike/cfg but what do i do after my graphics suck ****** cant even play de_dust or de_dust2 plz help me !!!

Okay , so I'm having some probs that I can't seem to figure out and maybe someone has a simple solution to it. My dx software level reccommends it should be 9.0 , so when i make the changes in the cstrike/cfg folder, it "saves" so it says, i open the game up , go to options, and now it says dxlevel 9.0, great right?? ...well THEN... I play the game, i look back in the options, and low-n-behold, dxlevel is back @ 8.1, wtcrap ?

Guys... Guys....As with all steam related things:-
1. If its not there, create it. Open Notepad, Put in the commands you want, Save As., change file type to all files, then put filename in as 'cs.cfg'
2. If it needs editing you use notepad
This goes for all steam related config stuff. Aint that right elliot,
So in answer to your Q's, open with, choose program... Notepad...Notepad...Notepad.... 1 more time for you slow guys... Notepad...

I got ATI Radeon 5200 with 256DDR RAM on it, but it is a PCI vga, cuz I dont have an AGP slot on my PC. My CPU is 2.6 Mhz Celeron with mmx, sse and sse2. But I noticed when I turned everything to low, including resolution, I get about 10-20 fps. But when everything on high, I get 10-40 fps, depends how much action I got going on screen. And also I got the same problem, I got directx9.0c installed on my PC, and my vga supports it, but in game in video options is says that I got 8.1, WTF?? Does anybody know?

I got a little question. I recently went from a AMD Athlon 3200+ to a 3800+ X2 Dual Core. The problem is, I don't see anny diference. And I'm not just talking about css, I just don't see anny difference at all! I worked my *** for 2 weeks to be able to buy it so I was really hoping for a little more change. Any help?

could be that your bios doesn´t support the CPU, i bought a 4200+ x2 and i had to wait for a bios update to be able to use both cores, check into the driver thingy

Fantastic, my video card only supports medium quality, (or is recommended for it), with still keeping pretty good FPS.
But I tried putting the commands in notepad and naming it "cs.cfg", and putting that in cfg...but it still doesnt work.
Any suggestions?

Hey, if its called "cs.cfg" put "exec cs.cfg" at the bottom/top of your config.cfg file.

Not true, I'm running AMD 64 3500, 2GB RAM, eVGA 6800GT and I get 130+ FPS maxed out and one some maps I can get over 200. HL2's engine is actually perfected imo, compared to other games that look equally or less good that will run at a lower FPS.

btw.. dallen a laptop will state a lower cpu speed mine states 700 even though its 2ghz its because they have dynamic speeds, it will use less processor for lower priority processes and to save battery power

I just paid almost 10k for my computer and i get about 1800 fps!!! my friend got one but was only around 1500 fps though. I recommend total customization on a computer! Maybe ya'll aint rich like me and my friend but can still afford a computer like that! did i tell you i was rich? lol
